  • DRY STONE WALLED HOUSE

A house built in dry stone walling is pretty rare these days!Located next to the house with the sculptures, was such a house. One side of the home, was still built in the original dry stoned wall. This means, that originally the whole house would have been constructed from stones without any mortar to bind them together. It doesn't sound like it...

The Minlaton Museum is located in the main street, in part of an old General Store built about 1889. I was interested in visting, to learn more about Captain Harry Butler. The Captain Harry Butler Memorial is the main attraction in Minlaton. The building which is built like an aircraft hanger, houses the "Red Devil" plane he flew. Up until 1876, church services were held in private homes, then in the Institute before a decision was made to build a Church in 1885.The design of the church at Port Victoria by WK Mallyon was selected, but with modifications. WK Mallyon was a well know Church architect...

  • MINLATON TOWN HALL

In a small country town, the size of the Minlaton Town Hall was quite a surprise. It isn't the original hall that was built between 1880 -1881 and known as the Minlaton Institute, but a new one built by the District Council who took over the Institute in 1935. They removed the original hall and built a new one in Art Deco style, with curved features...
