Luggage and bags: Bigger is not always better. The bigger you have the more you will pack. Remeber most of these people will only see you for two days so it's not a big deal if you wear a shirt twice in a week.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: bring along a sweater if you go to sydney or further south in from june-oct caus eit can get pretty cold. My first night it was 3 degrees in my tent and my sweater was a great friend tha night.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: if you plan to camp buy a mat to sleep on. They are cheap but they make a huge difference on your back in the morning.
