At the oldest housing ,black door hidden a friendly restaurant. I hv been living there for 2months, it is always my favorite, the cosy warm restaurant got a range of dishes, from easy going chip n schnizel to oyster n kagaroo fillet.it is the heritage of penola, which now become a hotel owned by friendly John and libby, always smilly n peacefull.
Favorite Dish: Garlic prawns with rice is my favorite, nice present of dishes, nice pink n withe color combination n gd smell of galic, attact me lots, a perfect dishes for lady.but my fds clean the dish of scotch fillet all the time, they have so many kind of sauce to pick with, he just hv his favour experiment each time. n mustard n parmison herb bread is wonderful too, best favour bread that I ever had ,not those in supermarket, but in value price. I never try the dessert, but next table's white chocolate panna look cool, presentation of this restaurant is in hight quality.
Food - extensive menu, high quality, unique pairings. Also, owners grow all vegetables organically and hydroponically.
Ambience - very nicely decorated red and brown minterior, with lots of furniture all made from barrels, nice acquarium.
Wine Bar - Coonawarra winery called Hundred of Comaum sells their wines here - rtaste good and at wholesale prices. Can taste them all here.
Large Courtyard - great for smokers like me!
Favorite Dish: Crispy pork belly confit - has a great honey soy sauce, meat is tender and skin is crispy like a roast pig!
Great cafe with built in gormet deli. A real treat.
Favorite Dish: You can't go past the delicious bagettes for lunch. I had the one with marinated Aussie fetta, marinated capsicum, sun dried tomato, pesto and chicken. They warm it up, it is super! And just enough for lunch, not a huge mega roll! Great fresh juices too.
In my humble opinon, this is the best restaurant in Penola. Many a time has my family made the 50 km trip up the road for great food, wine, and atmosphere! That would have to be the best thing about this restaurant, apart from the food and wine, is that it is built in an old church, with a beautiful courtyard and funciton room built on the back. The main restaurant is cozy without being over crowded or obtrusive.
Favorite Dish: it is all so superb - mainly Australian and utilising the many and varied fresh and native produces from the area. Chicken, fish, meat, it is all here. I always have a great time here.
This was an old church or school house or something. It was very pretty inside and very comfortable. The food was outstanding and the wine list was too. It was so good we went there twice.
Favorite Dish: from the menu:
free range chicken roasted with tomato and chilli jam and served on a stirfried salad of kaffir lime, wong bok, garlic, chilli, ginger, galangal, sesame seeds and black rice.
had to eat it again the second night because it was so good and I knew I'd never have it again.
