Wow! We are inside the huge retail shop of Melbas.

I guess I first noticed was the funny farm orientated names on the chocolates. For sale were Horse Cakes, Cow Pats, Bull *** and Sheeps nuts, I think somebody would get a laugh if they received one of them for a gift!

Chocolates and lollies lined the walls, the centre benches are full of them too! Many old favorites that you only find in specialty shops, you can buy here. There is everything, from Boxes of chocolates, to bags of different chocolates, and you can buy chocolate frogs, cars dinasours etc separately.
Lots of choice and prices were quite good too!
Don't miss out on having a peek at where they make the chocolates. Nothing was being made, but I did see all the machines.
They have on display old chocolate, lolly and icecream tins, these brought back a few memories.

So I chose a few bags of chocolates, and headed to the front counter to pay, then headed out the door to the Car with some goodies to nibble as we continue on our scenic drive through the Onkaparinga Valley.

Like chocolate, I do, so a trip to Woodside meant a detour off the main road and to Melba's Chocolate factory.

We found the factory, and pulled into the parking lot at the rear of the building. Melba's Chocolates are located in the historic Woodside Farmers Union Factory.
Farmers Union had farms in the area and built the factory to process milk from the farms run by its tenants. In 1919 it was bought by the SA Farmer's Co-operative Union and operated until a rationalisation programme in the 1977 spelt the end of the factory.

For 14 years it stood still, then Melba's took over the site and began the massive task of cleaning and renovating the building including adding a three bedroom residence on the upper floor of the Chocolate Factory, the former testing laboratory, milk receiving depot and can storage area.

As we entered, along the walls were old photo's of the factory, old machinery and lots of awards that were won. It was quite interesting and a good read before we entered the main part of the building through the old fashioned turnstiles......
Come with me to the chocolate section of the factory.

Melba's is very easy to find. All you have to do if coming through Woodside, pass by the St. Johns Lutheran church along the Onkaparinga Valley road, and turn right at the large Brown tourist sign which will lead you to the factory.

The Lobethal Bakery, what can I say, it is THE BEST ...AWESOME!

This Bakery was established by German immigrants who started with one bakery in the nearby town of Lobethal. Their German pastries were so good, they have established many more Bakeries in the district.
What to choose is always a problem, whether you are after cream cakes, fruit buns or bee stings, everything in this Bakery is A1!!!!
You can expect the Bakery to be very busy at lunchtime as everybody knows how good it is!

A MUST STOP FOR GOOD FOOD
