Hobart International Airport by seamandrew When flying to Tasmania, you'll have to options as far as destinations go. You can either fly to Hobart of Launceston. I've never been to the latter, but our flight to Hobart was excellent. The views of Tasmania from the plane were wonderful. Considering we sat on the left side of the plane that allowed us to see the eastern coast of Tasmania as we flew south. One of the treats was Freycinet National Park and Oyster bay, the bay it sits on. Hobart Airport is very small, but both of Australia's largest domestic carriers (Qantas and Virgin Blue) will get you there affordably. We flew Qantas and were very pleased! It's impossible to get lost in this small airport and the rental car counters are right at the terminal. Lastly, the airport is just a quick drive from Hobart itself. Leave a Comment

i went to Hobart by taking Jetstar, of course, the earlier you have the booking, the cheaper price and more seat avaible for sure. in General, ticket listed on Jetstar is reasonable. the only one thing that i am not pretty satisfied is the seat in cabin is pretty untidy, one time i saw some snacks was left on the seat. Our rental in Tasmania. by seamandrew In order to see the many wonders of Tasmania, I highly recommend renting a car. I was a bit nervous of doing this as it would be the first time I drive on the 'British' side of the road. Fortunately, I mastered it without out a problem. Even when turning! I had to focus more than I ever do when driving, but I did it! The rental rates weren't bad at all. We went with Hertz which was a little higher than some of the others, but not by much. Be warned, that some of the roads in Tasmania wind back and forth until no end and this can get quite tiresome for someone not accustomed to driving on their side of the road. Make sure you take the insurance just in case. Our guide bood recommended it highly. They're reputedly the hardest roads to navigate in Australia. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Franklin Square by bijo69 Metro Tasmania has an extensive net of public transportation. You won't need if if you just stay in the centre, but some of the outer suburbs are also great for visiting. Fare are fair, if you're planning to take the bus after 9am from Monday to Friday or on Saturday and Sunday you'll pay just 2,60 AU$ for the day, no matter where you travel! Most buses leave from Franklin Square/Elizabeth St. Leave a Comment

Tours await the touristy traveler. by seamandrew If you're looking to book some guided tours in and around Hobart (including to other parts of Tasmania), you can walk over to the piers and there are at least two tour companies operating from there. They have boat tours and bus tours. If you're one to prefer those types of tours, this is the place to go. It's right on the waterfront. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

Hobart can be a difficult city to drive in because the CBD is contained by the mountain on one side and the river on the other, meaning lots of one way streets. There are no passenger trains but the bus service works well and the staff are friendly. At the lower end of Elizabeth street there is a bus mall and on the corner in an old sandstone building with a bell tower is the Metro shop that can advise you on transport. The most popular trips are to : Mt Nelson....glorious views over the river and city and tearooms, if you wish, you can hike down from there through the Truganinni eserve and pick up another bus to the city from the bottom of the trail. Catch any bus from stop N on the side of the park across the street. Seven Mile Beach.....this takes you across the bridge and on to a delightful beach, usually almost deserted. ...and it is errr seven miles long. Cadbury Chocolate Factory and Cascade Brewery...forget the group tours and save money by catching the bus. Don't forget to phone and make bookings first though. Taroona route 61....this fillows the coastline south of Hobart to a town called Kingston. You can either return on the same bus or change to a Hobart Coaches bus (same ticket is used, Hobart Coaches is a subsiduary of Metro) and return over the shoulder of Mt Welington. For less than $5 you can buy a Day Rover ticket that operates from 9am to the last bus at night. Leave a Comment Theme: BusWebsite: metrotas.com.au

Public transport in Hobart is surprisingly more frequent and efficient compared to most other Aussie cities. The Metro Bus is a good, cheap and simple way to get around and in&out Hobart once you familiarise yourself with the bus routes. If you are gung-ho about taking the buses, and it pays to spend a little more time familiarising yourself with the bus routes. I bought a day-tripper ticket (A$2.60, circa 2005) which allowed myself to run all over the city, hopping from routes to routes. I actually ventured to both The Cascade Breweries and the Cadbury Chocolate Factory on my end via the Metro buses. (Day Tripper tickets – allowing unlimited travel after 9:00 am – able to be purchased on the bus or via Metro Shop and Metro Agents) Leave a Comment
