A great trip out of town is to visit Seven Mile Beach. If you're brave enough you can go for a swim is the cold water, if you like walking -there's a trail to Lauderdale (about 10km) from where you can take the bus back to Hobart.

Wandering the back streets of Hobart's inner suburbs is a great pleasure for those with an interest in colonial and early Victorian architecture. Head over the Brooker Ave. to the hilly weather board suburb of Glebe - it once church estate and like the Sydney suburb with the same name is full of eclecticism and great architectural charm. Great view are from this quiet place which has an almost twilight zone feel about it.
Don't just walk the specifically marked streets on the map. If you go a little deeper, you?ll find what I liked to think of as the ?Real? houses of Battery point.
A little less flash, some a little tired looking and needing a coat of paint, but neverless real and you could see people coming and going about their daily business - more signs that people actually LIVE there (rather than it being like a toy village with few personal touches).
Here, in the back streets of Battery Point I even noticed advertising on windows - notices pinned to the effect of ?NO WAR? or « Stop Jim (Jim Bacon, state Premier) destroying our forest", and other unusual propoganda.
We walked from Battery Point on to Arthur?s Circus. Arthur?s Circus is made up of 15 Georgian cottages set around a former village green (which is now a small grassy park with swing). Now this place really does look like a toy town, pretty, but perhaps less lived in.
The Zoo Doo Fun Park - is just out of Richmond, about 30km north of Hobart. A curious cross between a farm and a zoo, right in the middle of nowhere! Features all kinds of animals that are very rare in this sort of area/climate, including monkeys, buffalo, llamas and guinea pigs, as well as the more usual donkeys, pigs and goats.
The best way to get there is follow the highway north towards Launceston, and while going through Brighton turn off to Richmond. It is also possible to get there via the airport highway.
