Cradle Mountain National Park: Hang out at a Wombat Burrow!

by ATXtraveler

Since Sarah and I are normally too tired to go out and party when we take holidays, nightlife tips are notoriously scarce on my pages. Thats not to say we can not have some fun with them! If you are on your way to Tasmania, I am sure it is not to hang out and drink all night, leaving you with no energy to see the sites.Instead, I would recommend taking some evening nature walks, where you can take in the local nightlife... one being the Wombat.Wombats mostly come out at night, and if you are lucky enough to find a burrow, then you are in the right place! These animals can create complex mazes of tunnels with their burrows, but most have 2-3 entrances. They are easily noticeable since Wombats can not exactly be missed! These cute creatures create 10 burrows a piece sometimes, which means they have those holiday homes we have all wanted!

It's about a 10 mins ride. Very convenient. The bus-stop is directly outside the hotel.http://www.metrotas.com.au/if you into taking public transport like me, pls call 13 2201 metro bus hotline for more info and the time of departure of the bus.

Tasmania All Over: Tasmania: Mountain Huts and Sea Side Shacks

by Intrepidduck

There are a number of fine mountain huts in Tasmania. If your rambling along the Overland Track you will be certain to be staying in a number of them. That's if crawling about in tents is not your thing. Good advise is to start your walking early in the day, to get the most of the finer weather in general, and lastly to get a place to roll out your sleeping bag. Some of the most photogenic and historically important mountain huts in the state can be found at both Dixon's Kingdom, at the Walls of Jerusalem National Park and the old (emergency shelter only) Du Cane Hut, found along the Overland Track, Cradle Mtn - Lake St Claire Nat. Park. For shacks these are all privately owned and are found at most of the larger lakes ie: Great Lake, Lake Leake and many coastal communities like Lettes Bay outside Strahan and Cookville on Bruny Island to name a few places. They all, although simple and...

Penguin beaches: Penguin Parades

by Kate-Me

If you're interested in Penguins, Tasmania seems to be the spot to see them, at several different locations, including Bicheno (east side) and Devonport (north) and beyond Freycinet Peninsular (South East)I'm not sure if all the places which have Penguins marked on their maps also conduct tours, or if you just find the beach where they are said to come, go at night and wait for them. Check with Tourist Information centres in the areas you're travelling through for more details. Maps and brochures tend to be pretty general and say that you can see wildlife almost everywhere (but I prefer the spots which are more definitely likely) For penguin watching in Tassie, definitely dress warmly from the wind and night cold, even during some summer nights.
