    Bicheno picnic spot

Bicheno is a pretty fishing town, and is Tasmania's top diving destination.

We stopped here for a picnic lunch overlooking the ocean (on a sunnier day the ocean here is quite spectacular)

There are also nightly Penguin tours in Bicheno.

    Honeymoon Bay

    Honeymoon Bay

The Honeymoon Bay walk in Freycinet National Park is only very short - a mere 10 minutes walk from the car park on the way back from Wineglass bay (fortunate for us, because we were too exhausted after our climb to walk much further than 10 minutes!)

Again, on a sunnier day, it would be very spectacular. Still, it was pretty even in the shade.

    Wineglass Bay Lookout Walk

    Wineglass bay from Lookout

Wineglass Bay is in Freycinet National Park, further south than St Helens & Bicheno.

Most walks in the park are quite lengthy, and gruelling but from pictures I've seen seem very worth it.

Wineglass Bay lookout is reached in 1 - 1/2 hours from the carpark. From there you can walk another 2 hours to the beach itself.
The walk to the lookout was to me very strenuous, but well worth the walk to the top, even though the day was overcast and so the bay nowhere near as bright as usual.

    Bay of Fires I

    campsite view

The whole approx 20 min drive along the strip of the Bay of Fires is my No 1 Must See for the whole of Tasmania, when it comes to coastal Scenery.
That's just how good it is - and I can't believe I'd never heard of it before coming here. It's THAT good....see the pics for yourself, keeping in mind that these were all unfortunately taken on dull days when the sun hardly shone (but I've seen great brochure pics of them in full sun)

This photo was taken standing right at our tent site.

    Bay of Fires Sunset

    Sunset over Bay of Fires

This still looked great to us, even though the sun was barely shining as it went down.

You could still see how blue the clear water would look on a clear day
