Tasmanians favorite sport.... Penny Farthing!

by ATXtraveler

Ok, so many Aussie Rules or Rugby claims more actual supporters, but one thing is for certain when you visit Tasmania, Penny Farthing is boss in February. For those unfamiliar, PennyFarthing is actually riding that crazy bicycle with the large front wheel. The home of Tasmanian PennyFarthing is the town of Evandale, which is located 5 minutes from the Launceston Airport. In the middle of town for all to see, a great little statue of a Penny Farther and his dog signifies its importance to the town!2006 will mark the 100th celebration, so book early! Your camera, unless you are an expert farther....

A good state for sports

by Kate-Me

I'm not really a sports person, but even I couldn't help noticing that Tasmania is a great place for sports.Salmon fishing is very popular, diving on the East coast and snorkelling, Jet Boat rides (near Huonville in the south and over on the West coast too), Hiking, Trekking, Boating and lots lots more.
