Owing to the prosperity generated by the gold rush in the late 1800's, it seems that practically every little town has a square with a Court House, Post Office, and CLock Tower built from stone. Camperdown is a nice example. It made a lovely overnight stop for us coming from Melbourne and on the way to Ballarat.

It's only a short drive from the centre of town up to the top of these volcanoes.
The view from the top is great. You can see over the surrounding farmland, town and crater lakes in the distance (special Maar crater lakes which are rather rare).
It's a steep walk, but if you were fit, you could even walk down the steep slope into the grassy volcano bowl below you.

We made a long day trip from Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road and made it to Camperdown at nightfall. Next stop: Ballarat

Camperdown for us is en route to the Great Ocean Road (Warrnambool region) from our home town of Ballarat in Western Victoria. Basically it's the short cut, rather than taking the coast all of the way...

Quaint old fashioned Victorian town

This lovely little town is located in the middle of a pretty countryside characterized by a volcanic landscape with cones sprouting out in green fields and rounded-shape lakes.
