warning to visitors;
the area has a lot of deep and hidden mine shafts,people with young children should be aware of this danger and make sure when walking off tracks,to keep a watch on their children.

there is an open (safety grill has been cut out )mine shaft at the castlemaine heritage park near the eastern most end of eureka reef it is the horizontal type of mineshaft and has no air inside after about 20 metres. be aware it can be dangerous as well as the fact that toward the end of the tunnel there is recent signs of a cave in. i have been inside this mine and it was very uncomfortable with the lack of air.
tourists are best advised not to enter it at all.maybe the dse can replace grill before something bad happens?
several shafts in the area have vegetation hidng their vertical decent so the unwary could fall down them.we have attempted to clear a few of the more dangerous ones so they are visible.
