The Gull bus service to go the airport is a nice way to travel. The seats are comfortable and from Geelong they will only make a further two stops between there and the airport. They will drop you right out front of either the domestic or international terminal (the same places for departures from the airport as well). From the Gull depot it takes 1 hour and 20mins to get to the airport. In Geelong you can get on at McKillop St or arrange to be picked up at the Geelong train station. Most tickets you can buy on the day, but if you are departing from Geelong on a bus that leaves before 8am, you have to buy the ticket at least the day before. A one-way adult ticket is $30 (a little expensive, but not too bad). Leave a Comment Theme: BusPhone: 5222 4966Other Contact: 45 McKillop St

I usually recommend car for getting anywhere around vast Australia, and this is no exception. Sure there are buses that can get you to the Great Ocean Rd, and 'off the beaten track' bus tour companies like Oz Experience, but there are so many great off the beaten track things to see that if you don't have your own transportation, you'll miss a lot. For the Great Ocean Road, I've heard a lot of people say it's great by motorcycle, and I can imagine it. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

During the summer period (and usually early autumn) there is a free Geelong city bus. It takes you around the main parts of the city (which isn't very large). It can be a good way to get your bearings. "The circuit commences at Eastern Park, travels along the waterfront, heads to Johnstone Park and the Geelong Railway Station, visits the Geelong Art Gallery and loops through the city's shopping precincts before heading to the Geelong Botanic Gardens". December to the start of February it operates 7 days a week. February to March it operates only on the weekends. I am uncertain if there is any commentry. Leave a Comment

Geelong has a major history as a port for the travellers on their way to Victoria from all parts. If you are interested in the historical voyages made, you may look into the timetable for the tall ship, James Craig. The James Craig has a history with Victoria, visiting for its first time in 1892, while it was a mere teenager. James Craig is the only 19th century iron barque still operational in the southern hemisphere and one of only four in the world; a great testament to the dedication of the Sydney Heritage fleet and the many people involved in the restoration since 1972. The ship will join Polly Woodside in Victoria as the property of the National Trust of Australia. She will actually have passenger berths, so check out the website! Leave a Comment

Geelong train station by Marpessa One of the easiest ways to travel to Geelong (especially from Melbourne) is by train. You can also go to Warrnambool, Ballarat or connecting with other trains, you can go to other regions of Victoria. Geelong has 5 train stations (if coming from Melbourne, in order they are): Corio, North Shore, North Geelong, Geelong and South Geelong (although the first three are more just 'stops' than actual stations - you'd have to buy your ticket on the train). For an Economy ticket (return) from Geelong > Melbourne, these are the approximate fares: Ordinary Full Fare: $20.80 Ordinary Concession: $10.40 Off-Peak Saver Full Fare: $14.70 Off-Peak Saver Concession: $7.30 Trains often run from 6am till 12pm. Although check to see if you train goes through to South Geelong, if that's the stop you want (as not all trains do). Leave a Comment

Local Geelong transport - the bus! by Marpessa The Benders buses (local buses to suburbs in Geelong) and McHarrys (which go down to Torquay and Anglesea, etc) now operate on the myki system. It is an electronic card so you swipe on when you enter the bus and swipe off when you leave and it calculates the lowest fare for your trip (which is usually around $1.80 for an adult). You can top your card up online or with the bus driver. To purchase a myki card, there is an office at 129 Ryrie St (about 20m from the T&G building across the lights), or you can get them online. If you don't have one of these cards, or are only passing by and do not want to buy one. Then just get on the bus and say 'adult, please' or 'concession, please' (must be under 15 or have valid Australian student card). An adult ticket for 2hrs (and the remainder of the hour for which you bought the ticket) will cost you $2, a concession will cost you $1. Bus timetables are available from the bus driver for about 50 cents. Leave a Comment
