The whole Great Ocean road is great, though not everyone has time to see it in its entirety.
I'd recommend starting the trip at the trendy surf town of Torquay with its world famous competition surf beach, Bells Beach.
The next major small town on the map is Anglesea, more of a fishing town and less commercial, followed by Lorne, almost as famous a holiday/swim summer holiday destination to Victorians as Torquay.
Apollo Bay is another 30 kms further away down the coast, and 'off the beaten track' a little, so it's less trendy and has less resort development, though that is now changing with the price of real estate now rising there also.
From Apollo Bay, the next major stop is a considerable distance, but well worth a view of the 12 Apostles (see Travelogue pics). The Great Ocean road ends around the town of Portland.
A word of warning: I'd never attempt to see the whole Road in one day. For one thing, there are too many nice towns and attractions to see, and another is the road you're driving on.
For most of the way you'll have cliffs on one side above you, and a sheer drop to the ocean on the other side. The road curves are for the most part very tight, so you can only do 40 - 70 km/hr at most.
Favorite thing: Loch Arch at low tide, this was quiet recently formulated, there were a few people sleeping on the arch which was connected to the land ,the next morning they were trapped on the arch which was somehow seperated from the land, and a helicopter had to get them, quiet a story huh?
London Bridge -
About 10 years ago this was all joined then the bit on the left fell into the sea but before it looked like the bridge hence the name.
Favorite thing: The beautiful yet harsh Great Ocean Road, not far from Geelong, youve got the greatest coastal ride in the world...I mean C'mon look at these views!
Favorite thing: Although the Ocean side of the road will fascinate you, if you glacne to your right once in a while you do get some georgeous views of the hills and Kangaroos.
Favorite thing: The Entrance To The Great OCean Road, Coming From The North the signpost looks like something out of a Flinstones Movie/Cartoon.
Favorite thing: Cape Ottaway - This is where the program 'around the twist' is set.
Favorite thing: The Ocean Road - This road goes from Melbourne (Geelong) along the coast for about 250k's.
View The Bays -
All the bays from Apollo bay to Port Fairy.
12 Apostles -
These is the most famous sight on the road, there were 12 now there are 9. Its in Port Campbell national park.
Favorite thing: Cave at the Gorge - Some crazy people went swimming in the sea in the background, it was like minus temp. Brgggghhh
Favorite thing: Bells Beach - This is where the first Rip Curl surfing contest was. Also where the final part of point break was flmed.
