Backpacks are good if you are travelling lightly.
If your accomodation is hotel, motel or hostel then do pack suitcases, favourite pillow, etc.

If you intend to go off the beaten track you need your steel capped work boots. No thongs or sandals.

Bring the aerogard and have a good weekend. Insect repellent is a necessity and if you do get bitten then you might need some calamine lotion to soothe the bites.
Suncream and hats are a must - slip, slop, slap.
If you don't wear hats and suncream you will burn - our wind is deceiving and before you know it you will be sunburnt really badly.

Bring lots of cameras to photograph the local natives in their mocassins and ugg boots. Seriously though if you are playing tourist there are lots of pretty sites where you will wish you had your camera.

Tents, sleeping bags, eskies, and portable barbecues.
We have a lot of places where you can pitch your tent and stay overnight. Lots of camping areas.

If you are headed here in January, there is just one requirement.... your sunblock. Wear what you like, or as little as you can. This place gets hot in January!! It was about 108 degrees today, which is close to 40 degrees Celsius.

I would definitely also remember your sunglasses, and your shorts.... but the most important again is that sunblock!!!

  • A backpack (although you can buy one in Geelong if you need it - pretty much you can get anything you need) - so that you can spend your day walking.

Sneakers are a good way to go. Bring a light jacket, except in summer on days you know are going to be hot - or dress in layers.

There are many camera stores throughout Geelong - so anything you need you should be able to find - (check my shopping page).

Australians are taught from an early age to 'Slip! Slop! Slap!' - meaning to 'slip' on a t-shirt, 'slop' on some sunscreen and 'slap' on a hat. This is because of UV rays from the sun. You can buy all different kinds of sunscreen from any shop that sells toiletries (pharmacies/K-mart/Target/Supermarkets, etc.).

It is very important that in summer if you are spending a lot of time outside that you wear a hat and sunscreen.

Also, recently when in Finland I saw that they had sunscreen at amounts like UV6/8/10/12+. In Australia you should always get sunscreen that is UV30+, the Australian sun is strong, so make sure you protect your skin.

  • Pack lots of warm clothes - jumpers and jackets, pullovers and coats. We have four seasons in one day sometimes. The weather can start off cool in the morning and end up very hot by late afternoon - and vice versa.

Pack good walking shoes if you are off to the beach or to the waterfalls or to our forests.

Medical facilities and chemists abound in Geelong. Unless you are on special medication you will find that Geelong can cater for most medical emergencies. Pack lots of sunscreen and hats - even on a windy cold day you can become sunburned easily.

We have lots of camping grounds for tents and caravans to unpack and set up for a few days visiting. Don't forget your own blankets and sleeping bags and bed linen.

this varies alot in the winter the winds can be ice cold so have good warm wet weather gear.
In summer the temp can be very hot so pack a hat sun glasses sun screen.
Victoria is not australi's hottest state but when its hot it it can 45.c
also the Australian sun is close to the worst in the world for skin cancer so
    bring good sun screen.

bring fly spy the bloody mozzies and flys are a real pain in the arse in the summer.

Some oeverseas people seem to have images of kangaroo's hopping up and down city streets well it makes us aussies laugh because it is not the case .
If you travel in the geelong area and are wanting to see a couple of these guys and are to scared to go in the bush Then I strongly recommend A visit to The Anglsea Golf Course as I can promise you there are always about 50 roos on the course at one time.
You can get up close to them but don't allow children to touch them .
You may be susprised to hear this but on Rare occassions kangaroos will attack a person,
It is extremely unlikely a adult could get killed however they can cause very deep cuts that will require stiches.
There are 2 main types of kangaroo the grey ,which are the most common and the Big reds which are at least 1 and half sizes bigger than the grey roos.
The tail of the Red roo could kill a person without any problem .
I'm not writing this to scare people because I have never heard of any person being killed due to attack by a roo I just want to point out the are wild animals and should be treated as such .
