Smorgy's and Buccaneers, Cunningham Pier by cassiejoy42 I have only eaten at Smorgy's so cannot pass an opinion on Buccaneer's, except to say that I have heard good comments from people who have dined there. Smorgy's is a smorgasboard meal, so you help yourself to the fine food on offer - seafood, roasts, salads, desserts, and more.
I like seafood so I usually fill up my plate with lotsa seafood. I also like salads and Smorgy's do nice salads. Theme: SeafoodPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Cunningham Pier, GeelongPhone: 03 5222 4113Directions: Geelong Waterfront, on the Cunningham Pier.

This place really is a wharf shed - it has huge windows with views of the waterfront (which is less than 5 metres away - you're right on the bay). It's an open - very casual - kind of place with a beach/bush feel to it. Service is efficient and prompt and the staff are very friendly. (4 of my photos for this tip were taken with my phone, so the quality isn't that great)
Their beer battered fish (a favourite of mine) is delicious and comes with mouthwatering fries (chips), lemon and tartare sauce. The servings are huge - I couldn't finish mine. Their pita wraps are big as well and filled with flavours. Their speciality is seafood and wood-oven pizzas. You can even get kangaroo meat here if you're willing to try it. Also, have one of the hot chocolates, yummm!!! UPDATE: The Wharf Shed also sell Magners - one of my favourite drinks (also known as 'Bulmers') Price: about average > more expensive than average. (Located above the Wharf Shed is Le Parisien - a French restaurant, but I have not been there as yet) Leave a Comment

This is a great restaurant to take a special person on a date. Also good if you are trying to impress the manager at work. Pricey meals but worth the price.

Tea House & Volunteers, Geelong Botanic Gardens by cassiejoy42, 4 more photos I really want to emphasise the Tea House in the Geelong Botanic Gardens. This lovely Tea House is staffed by volunteers and I reckon we should all give them our patronage. Volunteers are the mainstay of a lot of community projects in Geelong. Our tourist information centres are also staffed by volunteers. If you want a nice days outing, go to Eastern Park, take a tour of the Geelong Botanic Gardens and then go and sit outdoors or indoors (depending on the weather) and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and something to eat.
I haven't dined here yet but will add a comment when I have. As this is staffed by volunteers I would imagine they would prepare a nice banquet for your enjoyment. Theme: LocalAddress: Eastern Park, close to Eastern BeachDirections: Eastern Park, near the corner of Ryrie St and Garden St.

A very cheap bakery!! by Marpessa This is a little bakery that sells yummy pastries and other bakery stuff for a very cheap price. It's great if you just want to keep moving - go in buy what you want and you're back out the door and on your travels. One of the best thing about this place is their prices - the jam doughnuts are 70 cents!! They have rolls, tarts (lemon, rasberry, custard), vanilla slice, eclairs, meringues and lots more. There's also a fridge if you want to grab a can of coke (or the like), juice or water - and pay for it of course!!.
Their doughnuts!! Mmm and also their lemon tarts are quite nice. Leave a Comment Theme: BakeryComparison: least expensiveAddress: Moorabool St.Directions: In the city centre, right next to the Belmont Bus Stop

A great night out! by Marpessa I have now been here quite a few times. It is a 'traditional' Irish restaurant/pub. It also has a functions room (and conference facilities upstairs). The atmosphere of the place is excellent. It seems every Aussie backpacker who has been to Ireland brought back souvenirs for this pub - there are countless streets signs in both English and Irish, heaps of old Guinness posters and just homely Irish paraphernalia everywhere. Irish Murphy's is not too brightly lit and is a warm (friendly) inviting place to be. If you want to hear more abou the 'pub side' of Irish Murphy's check out my 'nightlife tip'.
Mmm... beer battered fish with chips. The menu consists of Irish themed food. e.g. Irish Stew, Guinness Pie - it all looked delicious. I can't remember exact prices - but I'd put it between 'about average' ($15-20) and 'more expensive than average' - it just depends on what you order. The food is served nicely and in large portions, plus you never seem to have to wait too long for your food to arrive. If you are coming as a large group it may be worth it to book a table (sometimes it can be really busy here). Also if you're at the bar (which no doubt at some stage you will be) grab yourself a pint of Bulmers! Leave a Comment

There are two La Porchetta restaurants in Geelong. The one in town has a cosy feel about it and the one in Waurn Ponds with its large windows has a fresh feeling for its atmosphere. The one in Waurn Ponds is the larger of the two, but both are often very busy at lunch and dinner time and therefore can be a bit noisy. But the food is always delicious and it is a good restaurant to eat at.
I love their Chciken Schnitzel and their Hawaiian pizzas. Both are delicious! They also serve a large range of pizzas with almost any topping, different kinds of pastas and assorted types of schnitzel. A delicious range of ice-cream deserts and a varied choice of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. There are two restaurants in this building. The Wharf Shed Cafe is downstairs. Le Parisien is upstairs. The building also has outdoor toilets for public and patrons.
Haven't eaten much at either restaurant so I don't know the menus that well. Le Parisien has Frogs Legs and Snails on it's menu if you are feeling particularly brave. I have tried both and preferred the Frogs legs. Banjo's Bakehouse by Marpessa Banjo's Bakehouse sits on the corner of the mall in Geelong. It's a bakery so they have; pies, pasties, sausage rolls, various muffins, scrolls and also hot chocolate, coffee and tea. You can eat inside or outside in the mall (which has recently had a make-over). The smells that come from Banjo's are very inviting - it's hard to walk by.
They have nice (although small) sausage rolls, and excellent muffins (choclate, apple or mixed berry). Leave a Comment Theme: BakeryComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: 111 Moorabool St.Directions: City Centre, in/on the Market Square Mall

A Touch of Thai! by Marpessa A Touch of Thai is an excellent restaurant, its brightly coloured walls and friendly atmosphere make it a great place to eat.
The name of my favourite dish escapes me now... But it had chicken, spices, rice, croutons and mixed vegetables. Leave a Comment Theme: Pan-Asian and Pacific RimPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 35 Malop St.Phone: 5223 3244Directions: Next to La Porchetta.
