I saw this shop and just had to take a photo of it. It was just the nicest shop front. This shop is across the road from the Mercure Hotel. This shop is usually open - I snapped this photo on Geelong Cup Day and most shops were closed for the day.

Hematite necklace 'folded' in half by Marpessa Hematite is 100% Iron Ore, from Australia and made in Australia. Hematite means: pertaining to the blood. Wearing jewelry made of hematite is supposed to have a positive effect on your bloodstream. "It increases resistance to stress and helps circulate oxygen throughout the body". It is also very beautiful and comes in many styles.
$6 for earrings, $15 for a necklace. (minimum) Leave a Comment Theme: JewelryAddress: Pottage: Market Square, Wool Museum: 26 MooraboolDirections: City Centre

Sanity by Marpessa Sanity is one of the better music stores in Geelong. They have a huge range of CDs and DVDs. If they don't have it in instore then they offer to order it in for you. There are often many great sales (like 2 CDs for $44 or 3 DVDs for $50). They have excellent customer service and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Sanity also has a free magazine out every 3 months. It has all the latest on the CDs and DVDs coming out. Sanity also has a digital kiosk. It's where you can create and compile your own CD from over 500,000 songs - it is also legal downloading (so the artists still get paid, and the quality is the same as on a normal CD - the only thing is that you don't get the cover art). Please remember if you are from overseas, a lot of DVDs will only work for a certain 'region' of the world. Australia is Region 4, and unless it says on the DVD that it is '0' (All regions) or you have an 'all regions' DVD player, then the DVD will only work in Region 4 (which includes: Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, South America, Central America, Pacific Island and the Caribbean). While Sanity's competitor JB Hi-Fi may have cheaper prices sometimes (although, unlike their slogan - they are *not* always cheaper), they have a huge lack in their customer service skills. If you want help while shopping and people who will give you an honest opinion, go to Sanity.
Hmmm... Try some Australian artists: 'Wolfmother' - Wolfmother 'Young Modern' - Silverchair 'Standing On The Outside' - Songs Of Cold Chisel (various artists covering their songs) 'Black Fingernails, Red Wine'- Eskimo Joe 'The Hard Road' - Hilltop Hoods 'Here Come The Drums' - Rogue Traders (Or see my homepage for some of my favourites!)
On average: $6 for a CD single $25 for an album $30 for a DVD Although, like I said, they usually have a sale going and can have some great bargains. Pottage is a good place to get souvenirs from. They have your usual plush koalas/kangaroos/wombats, aboriginal painted crafts. But they also have an extensive range of handmade jewelry, like chokers, necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings.
Anything made locally!!

Sweets and Bargains! by Marpessa Well the shop is as it suggests. It is full of chocolates and lollies and all at cheap prices. Some brands you may know, others you may not (depending what country you're from). There's: Mars Bars, Snickers, Maltesers, Tim Tams, Cherry Ripes, Strawberry Ripes, Willy Wonka bars and many other assorted goodies that can make a nice present for family and friends (as long as they don't melt on the way home!).
I like the cherry ripes - but that's just me!
As little or as much as you want! Leave a Comment Theme: Food and DrinkAddress: Moorabool St., GeelongDirections: It's in central Geelong, the main street with bus stops - the outside of the shop is purple and yellow.

Market Square - Mall entrance by Marpessa Market Square is a large shopping centre in the heart of Geelong. Unfortunately it is not as good as it once was, and you can usually find better shops in the Westfield centre across the road. Half the businesses have either closed or are under construction. Compared to Westfield it always feels empty in here. In this centre you will find the following stores: Sanity (music store -featured in tip below) Sportsgirl (young womens clothing and jewellery) Cotton On (Men and Womens clothes) Adairs (Bedware, linen etc.) JB Hi-Fi (music, electrical goods) Australia Post (Post Office) Speaky's (Surf/clothing shop) My Chemist Lincraft (sewing/craftwork store) Forever Now (young women's clothing) Priceline (Pharmacy) Harris Scarfe (small department store) Tattslotto Newsagency The food hall here is currently under construction. ATMs are located within the centre. Normal opening times for the centre are: Mon-Thurs: 9am - 5.30pm Fri: 9am - 9pm Sat: 9am - 5pm Sun: 10am - 5pm (not all stores are open) Leave a Comment Theme: Department StoreAddress: Malop, Moorabool and Ryrie StsDirections: Central Geelong, by the bay.

DeGrandi by Marpessa DeGrandi is a large sporting goods store, they have everything from AFL, Rugby, cricket gear, Netball and gym equipment. They're also a good place to go for people with bicycles, as they have a cycle store (bike repair).
How could you come to Australia and not take home a football (AFL football of course!) Leave a Comment Theme: Sporting GoodsAddress: 419 Moorabool StPhone: (03)5221 5099Directions: Opposite Skilled Stadium (home of the Geelong Football Club)

Camera House by Marpessa Camera House is a large shop that deals with cameras (digital and compact), scanners, printers, frames, photo albums, telescopes, binoculars, mobile phones, batteries (lithium, battery chargers, etc.) They print photos from film, memory cards, CDs - anything you have a photo on. Depending on the amount of photos you want printed you can sometimes get them printed in an hour (slightly higher charge). You can now also send your photos into be printed on-line (you just need an internet connection and to download the 'print@camerahouse' software onto your computer). You pay for them on-line, and can then pick them up at the store or get them sent to your nominated address (See the website for full details).
Their prices are very competitive and usually have great deals. (they are on the cheaper side) Leave a Comment
