I was quite surprised to find this spot in a sleepy little town like Hepburn Springs. Upon arrival in Hepburn, we were meant to meet Anne12 down in town at the Red Star cafe, but first we stopped into the local hot-spot at the Palais Theatre. By hot spot, I mean that there were more than employees in the place at the time. The Palais dates back to the 1920s, and still today is the "premier venue" of rural Victoria.
Mostly used for a bar, it also has a very large theatre that has been converted primarilly into a live music venue now. The list of music acts coming through are actually quite popular in Melbourne, so this really is a happening venue.
Dinner and a show will set you back about $50 AUD, but is worth the effort considering it really is the only show in town!

This place seemed to have a lot of character when we walked through. The old ballroom has a great wooden floor and antique furniture and is where they now have live music every Friday & Saturday night and some events on Sundays and other days - just check their website for the current calendar.
The bar & restaurant are open every Thursday - Saturday from 6pm until late. For the live music, you can either buy dinner and the show or just the show. The prices vary. The Saturday we were in Hepburn, they had Sarah Blasko for $18 or including dinner for $48. Most shows seem to start about 9:30, but just check the website below for details!

At the Red Star Cafe you feel right at home. The staff are friendly, the food is great and the service is fantastic.
Bookshelves line the walls - full of books.
Window ledges are covered with knick knacks, memorabilia and vases of fresh flowers.
It is a very homely place - that is you feel like you could put your feet up and slab out.
