As you drive own the Main road of Hepburn you are sure to see the bright colours of the display in the Gardens of Portla

The girls have decorated the Gardens with colourful lanterns and gear.

Here you can get funky cloggs, clothes and fashion jewellery.

It's a fun place to wonder around in side the shop and outside on the lawns.

Hepburn Springs Reserve

**The Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve is really the focal point of the town . It is located atop rock strata and volcanic basins formed by three extinct volcanoes. Waters, trapped in these basins, have slowly leached minerals from 450-million-year-old rocks: minerals which are believed to have a curative effect. The reserve's four major springs are Locarno, Sulphur, Soda and Wyuna.**

Hand pumps and continuous-flow pipes are scattered about and you can bottle or drink your own water free of charge.

At the Hepburn Reserve there are also BBQ facilities and a playground area for the kids.
There is plenty of shade.

Barn of Goodies in the Back Ground

After many years of hard work the owner of Lavandula Carol White has created a beautiful area out of what was cleared uninteresting land. When Carol bought the property is had a run down barn and stone cottage on it now it's a little piece of paradise.

The farm is at Shepherds Flat which is a 5k drive from Hepburn on the Newstead road.

Here you can stroll around the gardens and see the Swiss Italian influence of stone buidlings and cobbled courts.
There is the Lavender that grows in rows and of a summer when in full bloom it is a beautiful picture of colour.
There is also the roses and herb gardens. The geese are roaming around the lawns. You can see the Llamas and other animals as you wonder around the area.

If you get thirsty or hungry you can find the Cafe' nestled among the trees. Here you can have coffee, light lunch, cake or try the famous Lavender Scones with homemade jam.

There is also a Barn at the entrance. This is full of goodies from Lavender products to hand knitted jumpers, kitchen items, hats and loads more.

Open from 10.30 to 5.30 Daily EXCEPT Tuesdays.
The Farm is closed around August for a couple of months. If you are visiting at this time please ring to ask their hours.

Not just a Gallery

The Convent Gallery is set into the side of Wombat Hill, in Daylesford. This was the Commissioners Residence in the Gold fever days, then became a Catholic girls boarding school. 16 years ago it was transformed back to it's glory, the gardens rejuvinated and open to the public.
You can visit the beautiful little Chapel, also there is accommodation.
A perfect place to have a wedding.
There is the Gallery, The Alter bar, retail section and Cafe'.
As you sit outside and sip on a cocktail, you can take in the beautiful views of Daylesford and beyond.
This is open 7 days a week.
It is a must that you go up the little curved stair case and have a look out of the windows, great views.

Abundance of Golf Partners

If you are from overseas and you haven't taken enough photos of Kangaroos, this is the place to go.
The Hepburn Golf Course. If you head there at 6.00pm or there abouts, they are usually playing around near the Golf Club.

one of the lavender gardens

Lavendula is originally Swiss-Italian and the property has been there since the 1850's. It is also a rather wonderful lavender farm.
A good time to visit is during the Lavender Harvest - this year held on the (2nd, 3rd & 4th week of Jan) where there is also entertainment and stalls and other things to be seen as well.
January 2004 was my first ever visit there and I rather enjoyed the European atmosphere.

Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are surrounded by quite a lot of Eucalypt forest, with some gravel roads leading into the forest. There are some set walks, or you could choose your own route, following the forest roads.

Most come with nice walks, of varying lengths, to reach the springs, though some water outlets are right by the carpark.
For bushwalks near mineral Springs, you could take a walk to Deep Spring (at Eganstown just before the entrance to Daylesford), Tipperary Spring, and several others, besides the main springs area at the Hepburn Springs resort (which has several short leafy walks)
