  • Taste the Mineral Water

You can fill up your water jug with the mineral water...so Bill thought he'd fill it to the brim...to find out it wasn't like the sparkling mineral he thought it would be. It's fun to give it a taste...but I think you have to get acquired to the taste. It's pretty neat to see the natural mineral water taps everywhere though....

  • Sleepy Town's Local Nightlife

I was quite surprised to find this spot in a sleepy little town like Hepburn Springs. Upon arrival in Hepburn, we were meant to meet Anne12 down in town at the Red Star cafe, but first we stopped into the local hot-spot at the Palais Theatre. By hot spot, I mean that there were more than employees in the place at the time. The Palais dates back to...

Hepburn Springs Transportation

  • Take a drive out to Hepburn Springs

Hepburn is a little ways out of Melbourne, and public transportation has not quite made it out. Although you would be fine walking or biking in between locations once in Hepburn, you will probably still need to rely on a vehicle to get out to the town. Also, if you want to make it over to Daylesford, and some of the out of town locations like the...

Hepburn Springs Local Customs

  • You have to try them!

The Bull Boar sausage has been a popular meat with the locals for many years.
Original recipes that have been handed down from generation to generationand are held close to their chests, they are secret!!!
The decendants of the Swiss/Italians in the area were the makers of these sausages.
As the name suggest they are made of Bull and Boar, with loads of garlic, red wine and other secret spices.
You can buy them at the two butcher shops in Daylesford.
These sausages can be boiled, grilled, BBQ or you can hang them up to dry.

WARNING......if one person in the family eats them......ALL should:)))

Hepburn Springs Warnings and Dangers

  • Lavendula's Snake Scare

Thanks to St. Patrick's work in Ireland, and his subsequent trip over to Wales to talk about his triumph in all of the pubs throughout Great Britian, there are still some Welsh that are dearly afraid of the slithering serpents. On our trip to Hepburn, we met one such Welsh woman, who even the mention of a reptile had her hair stand on end.As the...

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Hepburn Springs is like most places in Victoria - the weather can be unpredictable. Pack your woolly jumpers (pullovers) and maybe a jacket.
It is not surprising to have a warn sunny morning, followed by a chilly afternoon.

    superb Monarch butterfly

    by Kate-Me Written Jan 12, 2004

Fondest memory: This is my absolute fondest memory of my day out at the Lavender harvest festival at Hepburn Springs, seeing several large Monarch butterflies fluttering around in the bright fields of lavender. (Monarchs are migratory butterflies, and I hadn't seen one for many many years, for some reason. It seems that lavender is one of their favourite foods).
