To Hell or Melbourne

The full roar

Favorite thing: I stood one night, unknowingly, beside the river when all was suddenly light. From whence had this emanated I immediately wondered.
It was over in moments, so I was unsure, then it burst with a roar and it filled the sky.
There was a time, co-inciding with the massive gas flame bursts, when I thought I had done Hell and Melbourne in one hit.
The quote however, comes from an earlier time, when the skipper of the Marco Polo, a famous and fast clipper ship of the 1800's, sought to break records (see my Treasury page) for the passage from England.

Fondest memory: Today's "hell" is supplied by the casino (in more ways than one perhaps!) in the form of half a dozen pillars, somewhat reminiscent of the monolith in 2001 - A Space Odyssey, that belch forth flames every hour on the hour for five minutes in a dramatic (and very warming if you're near them) sychronized display.
This timed entertainment commences with small flames, then medium, then the guaranteed-to-grab-your-attention full thrust and roar.
Several restaurants nearby overlook the flames and outside seats are often hard to come by, such is the spectacle.
It's very dramatic and will certainly provide justification for dragging the children away from their beloved computer screens for a time anyway.

Favorite thing: Go to the Crown Complex. Well, we actually didn“t see much of Melbourne, but we were there and it was fun! If you want to shop, go to the Victoria Market. You can find everything there (clothes, souvenirs, cosmetics...), and it is really cheap! And you should go to the Victorian Arts Centre.

Fondest memory: As we met our friends. It was on the first day in Melbourne.
