Favorite thing: take a side-trip to the MORNINGTON PENINSULA... a lovely area scattered with quaint LITTLE towns (like Sorrento) and lovely attractions... like the PINE RIDGE CAR MUSEUM. Oh, and that's me about to check out that place.

Favorite thing: Will you go visit Melbourne someday? Mind you. You HAVE TO go to the Great Ocean Road. It is really fascinating with between green and blue dazzling bubbles and breakers.
Fondest memory: I really miss the beautiful and clean invironment in Melbourne. Green trees in city and the grass on the street. Easy-going people..

Favorite thing: Go to the footy (Australian Rules football) for a day of real Melbourne culture. Most of the main grounds are close to the city (walk/tram)and part of the fun is to join the crowds on the way there. Supporters mix well and though the odd exchange can be a bit heated its usually good fun. The game is fast, exciting and the rules are grey enough to ensure the umpire is ALWAYS wrong and half the crowd will let him know about it. After the game we often go into the city for dinner and perhaps on to a play or concert afterwards, to make it a proper cultural day out.
Fondest memory: I miss the variety of things to do. Melbourne is very big in the arts, huge on sport and loves to eat out.
If I am in a place with strong seasonal weather (Seattle is always cloudy in winter/Darwin is always sunny in the dry season) I miss Melbourne's weather moods. You can't get bored with Melbourne's weather it can change so fast...

Favorite thing: Actually I am in Bendigo which is about 1 1/2 hrs north of Melbourne. Great spot for a couple of days if you're visiting Melbourne. Bendigo has retained a lot of it's gold mining history and heritage buildings. Underground mine tours are a favourite, the talking tram and restaurant trams and lots of great architecture. Bendigo also has strong links to China, being a major settling place for chinese miners in the early 1800's. Great chinese gardens and museums to wander through.

Favorite thing: Shop at Melbourne Central! Eat Vietnamese food! Shop at Smiths Street! Eat Vietnamese food! Shop at Chapel Street! Eat Vietnamese food!
Fondest memory: Just hanging out with my friends at cafes (by the Yarra River or just outside Crown Casino is good), sipping coffee and watching the world go by! I know I can do that in Singapore too, but somehow, the feeling is different here! Must be the weather!! :)

Favorite thing: Strega Ristorante Italiano
(Crown Casino Ground Level)
You can look at this fountain from the restaurant.
The water comes from the fountain randomly, and
if you are lucky you can walk through without getting wet.
There are other high rectangular shaped fountains,
from which the water comes down outside, and in the evenings the gas burns on their tops. Randomly there is a sudden increase of the flame, so that you can feel the heat of it.

Favorite thing: Travel on the City Circle free Tram ride. Take the trip one way, then on another day take the free ride the other way, amazing what you see and hear from the free travel guide on a great tape. Have some good fun..
Fondest memory: Sitting on SOUTHBANK watching the world go by, and enjoying the great range of restaurants, then a short walk to the Crown Casino, to look, and maybe spend a little.

Favorite thing: take a tour in the City. First you can start stopping for a look at Flinders Street Station and St. Paul's Cathedral. Then up Swanston Street Walk passing the City Square and Melbourne's Town Hall. Once you reach Little Bourke Street you must take a visit to China Town, and stop for a meal in a Chinese restaurant.
Fondest memory: I miss Melbourne very much because I was born in Melbourne, and left in 1972 when I was 11 y.o. I now live in Italy and spent 5 weeks in Melbourne in 1995/96. Everything was so great when I arrived on the 9 of December 1995. It was my dream to go back in Australia for a visit someday, and that day was a dream coming true.

Fondest memory: One afternoon I went to visit the Melbourne Zoo, and spent the afternoon walking around to see the various birds, and animals, especially the ones unique to Australia. The beautiful birds especially caught my eyes, some I'd never seen before. As I left the zoo, heading out to catch the tram, I looked up in the trees along the way, and saw several beautiful birds. Wasn't sure of the type, it might have been cockatoos. But it just surprised and pleased me to see these beautiful birds flying free. (This photo was taken in the zoo.)
