Favorite thing: go to a game of Aussie Rules Football. It is the highlight of most locals week and it shows you an insight into the Melbourne culture. :-) The best place to watch the Footy is at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) in the great southern stand.
Fondest memory: are all the parks and gardens and all the different shopping centres everywhere. All the restaurants are great, you name a culture/country and there will be one with the cuisine, there is even a Jamaican restaurant near the city centre!

Favorite thing: Plan enough time to visit the many sites that Melbourne and the Melbourne area have to offer. In Melbourne, see the Botanical Gardens and stroll past the many beautiful buildings that make Melbourne a great city. Melbourne also offers great day trips around an hours drive outside of Melbourne. The Healesville Sanctuary and Phillips Island were great day trips from Melbourne.
Fondest memory: Phillips Island and the Fairy Penguin's. This is one of our greatest memories of any of our vacations.

Favorite thing: Eat.. Melbourne is three things... Food, culture, sport. You have to make time to try them all. Some of the best museums and gallerys, certainly the best restaurants and you really have to see an AFL or cricket game at the MCG
Fondest memory: The shopping and the nightlife... seems more alive at night than Sydney

Favorite thing: this pic of the gallery tower at the melbourne art centre shows the large spiral on top which changes color at night to a light blue (see pic on krystynn page).I haven't been iside this building for years .so ask a melbournian with more culture than me what it's like. The art centre is only 3 mins walk from Flinders Street station and is right next to south bank complex.
Which in my opion is one of the nicest places to go in the city area .
south bank has so great restaurants and also probably the best irish bar in melbourne in terms of decore .
its called P.J O'briens and I have given some of my hard earned across the bar to them on lets just say more than one time.

Favorite thing: The burke street mall in melbourne is really a opening to 2 of the 3 major department stores .david jones slighty more upmarket and Myers which is probably the the best range department store in victoria.
The mall itself is often home to buskers and the G.P.O is at the bottom of burke st,on the myer side of the street.

Favorite thing: Not as good as the sydney aquarium ,the newer melbourne aquarium is set out alot different and so ,despite not being as big as Sydney it's still worth a visit.
its in my opion slighty over priced as most of these places are .
allow around 3 hours.
