Favorite thing: St Kilda is one of inner city suburbs of Melbourne and in recent years, it has begun to shake off a seamy reputation and is home to many of Melbourne's famous visitor attractions including Luna Park, the Esplanade Hotel, Acland Street, its many theatres and St Kilda Beach. St Kilda is home to many of the city of Melbourne's big events.
Despite migrationary trends, St Kilda retains a large Jewish population. The legacy of Jewish people in the area is evidenced in the large number of synagogues in the area and the Jewish Museum of Australia, the only one of its kind in the country, which is located in Alma Street.
St Kilda is also home to many major annual events. The largest of these is the St Kilda Festival, which has grown over recent years. St Kilda also hosts Midsumma, a gay Pride March. St Kilda is home to the many venues of the Melbourne Underground Film Festival. Each year, the Community Cup Festival celebrates grassroots Australian rules football and raises money for local charities. Other local events include the St Kilda Film Festival and St Kilda Writers Festival.
The St Kilda Pier is another local landmark and major tourist attraction. The pier is terminated by the St Kilda Pavilion, an eccentric Edwardian building in the mould of English pier pavilions which is considered of high cultural importance to Melburnians. It was recently reconstructed and listed on the Victorian Heritage Register after burning down. The pier has a long breakwater which shelters St Kilda Harbour and hosts a little penguin colony. The pier is also the starting point for a ferry which runs between St Kilda and Williamstown.
St Kilda Beach is a beach with gentle bay waves popular with swimmers and sunbathers during the summer months. The beach is currently subject to a foreshore redevelopment scheme aimed at improving the pedestrian experience.
Tram routes 96 from Bourke Street, tram 112 from Collins Street and tram 16 from Swanston Street. At about 25 minutes from the city.
Fondest memory: I loved so much stroll around along Acland Street visiting the second-hand, trying how many cake shops I could. I uploaded a pic found in Internet because it represents perfectly the heaven (or hell)I found in waliking along this read....lots and lots of shops full of cakes!!!AAARGH.
I went to St.Kilda twice.
Once with my friend and her boyfriend in a very windy day and I loved so much walking on the Pier forcing the windy ...it was so great!
The other time the weather was sunny and I apprecited the beach and its sand...

Favorite thing: The best Melbourne describes me is MUSIC and ARTS, as im an art-person myself. Theres a lot of Art-Shows
and Open Galleries around town. Very interesting aspects from student to real time artists.
Besides arts, comes music.
Melbourne is always one of the stops for musical tours, as for world famous bands.
Its the best choice and also the nearest spot if you're living in Asia.
Very good musical and arts performing city.
Fondest memory: As for my rushy Melbourne trip,... is all because of the Icelandic band Sigur Ros.

Favorite thing: St Kilda Beach is a beach, full of beach sands, beige color, the white birds and peoples. I don't know whether this beach is clean but at least I saw not much of litterings except some bottles of Victoria Bitter, much better than many other beaches in other parts of the world toady. The street is clean, kiosk are clean too and I saw many superbikers hanging around in full leather suit, hot but they enjoy. Overall I see this beach OK, is my viewpoint anyway, foreign viewpoint.

Favorite thing: The St. Kilda Esplanade is a lovely way to spend the day by the water and shop as well. It's been years since I've been, but I believe the Esplanade is only up and running on a certain day (Sunday perhaps?)...
I found moderate priced goodies to bring home - hand-decorated pottery, leather goods, wooly slippers and sweaters, etc.
It's a cinch to get there by tram, and there's also decent parking on the side streets. You can add a visit to Luna Park, a walk out onto the pier, a little lunch or pint, etc., while you're down there!

Favorite thing: Very unusual way to express your creativity, don’t you think?
Young people make those sand sculptures on the beach in order to make some money, so if you see this give them some change. They will appreciate it and you’ll enjoy their special art :)

Favorite thing: A visit here is a must, as this ex-red light district is full of life, and buzzes even on christmas day.
Fondest memory: Melbourne has an attractiveness that few big cities do, and that is the feeling of real life, closeness to nature and space, without the distances of the cities of the USA.

Favorite thing: Go to St. Kilda, take tram no. 16 from Swanston St and ask the friendly driver where to get off.
St. Kilda is famous for it's magnificient bay vistas, The Esplanade, and the Sunday Craft Market. Acland St is synonymous with cakes, Fitzroy St also has many cafés and restaurants and is always bustling with activity at night. Unfortunately, crime rate has increased in this area so just be careful like you would in any other place. Don't let this warning stop you from going there though.
If you like shells, there're plenty on the beach too, just make sure you don't take the life ones. :)
The Sunday Craft Market starts from 9am to 5pm every Sunday. It's where local artists come to sell their stuff, ranging from paintings, ceramics to hand made soaps and other knick knacks. If you like talking to locals, this is a good place to be. :)

I bring them to the beach whenever the weather's nice and not too windy.

Favorite thing: Melbourne is not a city of theme parks and the only real one is the some what dated
luna park in St.kilda .its free to get in and the kids seem to have fun so if your in the area its not bad to loo around but I would'nt go out of your way to visit other wise.
