Wonderful setting as it is a small luxury resort facing a lovely lake. The service here is so attentive - you are quite pampered.
Favorite Dish: We only came for dessert this trip = there was no room for anything after lunch at Tuki, Smeaton.
try at the least their dessert sampler - see notes in Daylesford Travelogue

It was once a pub styled place in Melbourne, but early 2002, they have moved to Sorrento = it has changed into a very huge restaurant compared to the very tight pub before. The restaurant looks out in the Konya Beach, and in summer you can dine al fresco.
Favorite Dish: Chilli jam prawns and honey bug tails. Their desserts are also great

Wonderful set up.
Started off with lead from Malaysian chef, Allan Koh - good traditional Japanese food and also some fusion stuff.
The tables overlook a water ways smack right in the centre of the restaurant, while the side tables overlooked out the windows into the Melbourne Aquarium
Favorite Dish: Sushi platters and softsehll crab tempura
great noddles served in a paper cone lited up with fire
desserts are interesting with green tea pudding or sorbet, red bean ice cream, pancakes etc

"Sell the house, sell the grandmother - whatever it takes to eat here at least once." That's what most people will tell you when talking about Melbourne's most celebrated Restaurant of the Year and Best Chinese Restaurant in The Age Good Food Guide 2002.
However, consider the $ you gotta pay to eat here, I find the food a bit of a disappointment. Maybe my expectation was just too high, but I would expect it to be better to fit the reputation.
The service and overall commitment to quality dining is, however, impressive. So if you have too much to spend, go to Flower Drum for the service, but don't expect too much from the food.
Favorite Dish: Flower Drum specialises in Cantonese Cuisine. Let the team device the menu for you because they know what's the best available in the market at that time.

This is my fav Japanese restaurant in Melbourne.
Izakaya means pub-style restaurant.
Cozy, small family-run restaurant, with reasonable price.
Favorite Dish: Give me sashimi anytime! :)
Sashimi: thinly sliced fresh raw fish served with soy sauce and wasabi (Japanese horseradish).

Anything in Chinatown
I am a big fan of asian food, and Chinatown in the City of Melbourne is the best place to go. You can choose virtually any restaurant and they serve authentic asian cuisine. The striking thing in chinatown is the amount of asians... I figure that if people from asia are eating there, it must be fairly authentic, so I trust it. :)
Favorite Dish: everything! from prawn dumplings to short soup...

it's a crazy, noisy, busy, restaurant, with terrible service, yelling staff, and cramped tables... but the food is FABULOUS for the price, and for a quick and casual dinner out with friends.
Favorite Dish: Spaghetti Marinara, and Gelati

the Blue Train
Favorite Menu Item: The range of cakes and desserts they offer, and the coffee!
Unique Qualities: An eclectic atmosphere where the Melbourne scene is vigilant. A great view of the city while munching down on a modern menu and great coffee.
Location: Southbank Boulevard. First floor.

The prices aren't too bad it's about 15 to 20 dollars for a main meal and it's fully licensed. The place has an awesome atmosphere, There's loud music playing the whole time and there's memrobillia everywhere. For birthdays it's good because all the waiters come up and stand around your table and sing happy birthday to u. You could make a real good night out of it.
Favorite Dish: Of course the Aussie Burger, chips & either a strawberry or chocolate milkshake.

I am not exactly sure of the name I will get back to you on that, but it is in the Melbourne Central Shopping Complex, on the 2nd or 3rd floor.
Located right in the heart of the shopping centre, we sat on the balcony looking out to the shot factory and clock, and saw it do its thing at 12 midday! For those who have not been there, there is a huge gold pocket watch hanging up, and on the hour it plays Watzing Matilda and Aussie birds and animals decend from it!
Favorite Dish: I had a slice of quiece and potato salad and my sister had a focaccia and assures me it was excellent. Their iced chocolate is a real indulgence!
