Located in Carlton Gardens, opposite the historic Royal Exhibition Building, the award-winning Melbourne Museum houses a permanent collection in eight galleries, including one just for children.
Highlights include a complete skeleton of a blue whale, the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, a living rainforest, the racehorse Phar Lap and an IMAX theatre on site. Major international exhibitions are presented in the Touring Hall.
Some natural history, something from the labyrinths of our brain, some aboriginal culture and lots of other nice things to see. A wonderful indoor rainforest. etc. need at least two hours.
A visit to Melbourne Museum offers rich and often surprising insights into life in Victoria.
Cheap as chips... The Melbourne museum is a must do. It tells you so much about Melbourne's history. Eg. Gold rush, history of the trams and much more. I can't recall the price but it was pretty cheap... so worth a look.
