St Kilda Pier by AussieKitten Take a stroll or dip in the bay, in-line skate, cycle, fly a kite, lie on the sand or grass and relax, eat at one of the many establishments (St Kilda Pier cafe shown in the photo), take a ride on the rollercoaster at Luna Park, shop, and dance or mosh the night away... this can all be done in St Kilda. Take a stroll down Fitzroy and Acland Streets... yummy food!! Try 7 Apples on Acland St for their scrumptious gelatis. Oh, and then there's the St Kilda Festival during late summer. This is when 100,000+ people of all ages converge in this area when the streets are shut off to public transport, so that street raves, street performers, stalls, concerts and eating establishments open up for a whole day of entertainment! This parts of Melbourne has got itīs own flair. The beach is not far from cafes and shops. Somebody told me it was rather a bad area, but when i walked my way through some side street it appeared to me that I found the streets and some houses quite comfy, judging from the outside and the people seemed to be like in other neighbourhoods. Luna Park has been around since 1912. It is a really good day/afternoon trip, especially if you have kids, or just want to have a nice stroll into something different, a nice atmosphere. It's quite small inside, so don't expect Disneyworld or Volksfest (They were still building the rollercoaster that goes round the park when I visited), but expect a great photo opportunity under the 'big mouth'. Leave a Comment Address: Lower Esplanade, St Kilda, St Kilda SouthDirections: You can get there by monorail, bus or train. The monorail goes right along St Kilda beach, so you will see it along the way.Website: http://www.lunapark.com.au/

St Kilda is the perfect area to spend a day at the beach, wander over to the cafes for lunch, and then back to the beach. The nightlife is good in St Kilda too. Leave a Comment

The St Kilda Festival, held during the first weekend in February each year, is a chance to see the locals out at play... in their droves. Held over four days (beginning Thursday), the festival is a celebration of local music, arts, and culture - with the majority of events being free. The festival culminates on the Sunday, where the entire area is closed off to through vehicular traffic (beware if you're planning to drive, as finding a carpark is a potential nightmare), and you can immerse yourself in the sounds, smells, and sights that St Kilda is famous for. A lot of the action takes place on or near the beach, but there is also a focus on Fitzroy and Acland streets, the Esplanade, and the surrounding parks and gardens. Children are well catered for (although do keep an eye on them due to the large crowds - don't let this deter you from going, however); all musical tastes are pretty much represented; and most restaurants and cafes spill out onto the footpath and road offering a myriad al fresco options. If the weather is particularly warm, it is advisable to take a loose long-sleeved shirt or something similar that you can protect yourself from the sun with, as St Kilda can suddenly seem severely lacking in shade given the large crowds that amass on the Sunday.
