Melbournes famous 'Penguin Parade' is deffinitely worth a look but you need to allow enough time to get there. From Melbourne it is about 2.5 hours drive to Philip Island to see the penguins. It's easy to find but you may need to battle on the roads with the numerous coaches filled with Japanease tourists heading also heading down. The penguins start walking up the beach about 1 hour after sunset. You won't get back to the city till about 11:00pm. Also, the beach where the penguins march directly off the ocean so remember to take a warm coat.

The Italian restaurants of Lygon Street. I am sure some of them are great but the way the staff stand outside begging you to come in and try their establishment is a huge turn off for me... Competition seems fierce for what is pretty ordinary food.

this is not a trap.... it's just a joke! ( uh kelly? :-) ) When someone tells you 'tomorrow we'll go up to the mountains...' you'd better translate it with 'tomorrow we'll go up to the big hills'.... This doesn't mean it isn't a nice place.... Just don't expect mountains but a fantastic country.... lot of horseriding if you like it.
