Navan Park is a great place to take the dog for a walk. Make sure you keep them on the lead and away from the ducks!
Occasionally you will be lucky enough to see a pelican that appears from time to time.
There are a couple of FREE electric barbeques so don't forget the snags!!
Kids love the play area, lots of great swings, slides etc.

NAVAN PARK

Navan Park is only a couple of minutes by car from the main street of Melton. It is very popular with Mum's and kids at the adventure playground and also with dog owners.
There is a walking trail around the lake, with seats to stop and sit for awhile if you would like to just enjoy the scenery.
There are also electric BBQ's at no charge, and tables and seats under shelter.

Navan Park has a great playground area for the kids. Those with disabilities have not been forgotten either. There is a swing especially designed for wheelchairs in a fenced off area.

FEED THE DUCKS AT NAVAN PARK

The ducks are always on the lake at Navan Park, no matter how much or how little water there is! At the moment there is not a lot, due to the drought we are having. There are seats around the park if you would like to just sit for awhile.
I take my dog for a walk here most days.

PAD THAI

This restaurant is tucked away behind the main street. Takeaway downstairs, dine in upstairs.
It's only been open for a couple of months, although the chef (Christina) has been cooking in Melton for a few years at another Thai restaurant.
Christina and her brother run this great little place.

Update:
We have become very regular customers of this great little restaurant. Christina loves to cook especially for us. We no longer have the usual menu items, she decides what we're going to eat and cooks in the style that she eats......HOT!!! We love it.
At some stage during the evening she always comes out of the kitchen and chats to all the customers. Nice touch.
I think we are treated a little bit differently, one or two of us always gets a massage from Christina. Neck and shoulders feel fantastic afterwards : )

Favorite Dish: The Pad Thai is very nice.

Update:
I think our favourite now is the Papaya Salad. It's not on the menu but if we call a couple of days beforehand Christina is sure to make it for us! Must be eaten with chicken wings and sticky rice.
Love the Golden Money Bags for an entree.

CURRY HOUSE: CURRY HOUSE

This is a great little restaurant tucked away nowhere near the Main street of Melton. I think you have to be a local to know where this is, which is a shame because the food is very nice.
It's BYO only, no alcohol for sale. Take away is also available.

Favorite Dish: Vegetable Samosa's are a good choice for an entree. There are 2 to a serve. They are quite large which makes it a good entree to share.
We had the Tandoori platter (mix of chicken, lamb and beef) as our shared main and also the Sabjee Curry (vegetables sauteed with a touch of spice). Pulao (yellow rice cooked with butter and cumin seeds) accompanied it.
And don't forget the garlic naan bread!!!

TOM JUD

This little restaurant is run by Nang and her son "Pepsi". The lack of exciting decor is more than made up for by their friendliness and great food.
We are frequent visitors, often mid week, for a quick bite to eat after work when I can't be bothered cooking.
Take away is also available, spend more than $25 and you will receive a 1.25lt bottle of coke.
I would rather dine in, with my bottle of wine, so no dishes to do at all!!!

Favorite Dish: I really like the Pad Thai. Although the soup is rather good too. I have just discovered their Tom Jud....Thai style soup with pork mince and fish balls.

not much water left!!

Although I've lived in Melton for 5 years I had never been to this reservoir until recently. I didn't even know where it was! That's a bit sad really, but it's often the case that you don't check out your local places of interest.
We happened to be driving past on our way out of town (an area we don't usually go through) when I saw the sign, so a detour was made!
Speed boat racing used to be held here but due to the on going drought the water levels are way too low for this at the moment. Check out the photos for how low it is.
There were a few people fishing. Nice way to spend a sunny afternoon.
Kids play area looked ok. Included a little yellow dinghy on a spring thing...fun!
Good place for a picnic or bbq. Free bbq's are available.
