Favorite thing: There are plenty of nice places along the river in Mildura which are ideal for picnics or BBQs. Even in the heat of summer, the Murray's irrigation water means that the sloping banks along the river in town are green and grassy.
One of the places I most enjoyed was the park at Lock 11, where you could sit and watch the ferry and houseboats come and go through the lock, and pelicans and other birds like ducks going about their business.

Favorite thing: Around December, when we were in Mildura, the Jacaranda trees (purple) were in full flower, and the gardens in the streets were looking lovely.
Fondest memory: I've many fond memories of all the beautiful Jacaranda trees.

Favorite thing: Kings Billabong is just a few kms out of the centre of Mildura (see map at Vistor Centre you can have a brochure to find your way here) and is a part of the river where it is said a lot of birdlife can be seen.
We paid this place a visit but didn't see any, but I think that we picked the wrong time of day, as it was rather warm (over 30 degrees) and perhaps the birds were well hidden.

Fondest memory: Another shot of the friendly pelicans on the Murray. There dont' seem to be huge numbers of them at once, which was fortunate as even these 2 took 3/4 of a loaf of bread between them before I had the photos I wanted...but I thought it was a fair exchange :-)

Fondest memory: One of my fondest memories of Mildura is as a child of about 4 years old, feeding pelicans from the door of the caravan where we were staying, just across the river.
These days, it's still one of my favourite things, seeing the pelicans up so close (they came to within 3 feet of me, but fortunately, unlike black swans at certain lakes, they don't advance menacingly once your bread runs out!)

Fondest memory: Fond as I am of castles, and Australia not being the land for Castles at all, this interesting church caught my attention.

Fondest memory: This is another of my favourite memories of Mildura, walking past this house in the street and looking down their driveway, which was just a carpet of purple petals of Jacarandas.

Favorite thing: In December, the Jacarandas seemed to be in flower just about everywhere, and made the main street (Deakin Avenue) look rather impressive, with them all in a row down the centre of the median strip.

Favorite thing: I loved the semi tropical flowers in gardens around Mildura, which seem best at this time of the year, December.
In April when I was back, I didn't notice the gardens very much at all.

My stay in Mildura was too short to write many competent tips about this town. A few remarks, however, and some photos taken around Mildura are to be posted.
