From Nelson, most days of the week cruise boats are operating.
One particular cruise will take you from the Nelson wharf up to the Princess Margaret Rose caves, where a cave tour is optional.
The cruise is about 3 1/2 hours return.
Glenelg River Cruises (and the boats are named "Nelson Explorer", "Nelson Endeavour" & "Pompei's Pride"
Current prices (2007) Adults $25, Children $10, Seniors $22.50, family (2 + 2) : $60.
No shortage of water activities - Kayaking, boating, fishing, even house boating on a small scale.
We brought our own Kayak with us, but you can hire them from Nelson Boat & Canoe Hire on the Jetty in Nelson (also drop offs can be arranged)
Their website: www.nelsonboatandcanoehire.com.au
(incl Paddleboats, canoes/kayaks, motor boats, and a camper craft)
The road between Nelson & Princess Margaret Rose Caves doesn't often follow the river, so lookout points aren't very numerous. The best one we found was the elevated lookout near Donovan's Landing.
For nightlife in Nelson, this place looks pretty much like all there is. It's easy to find - just across from the jetty, the caravan park, the info centre, and the takeaway shop.
You can also buy takeaway alcohol and have budget accommodation here ($50 double incl breakfast)
