Free when you walk and/or camp. The koalas are pretty quiet during the day, just sitting there chewing eucalytus leaves. At night, they get active and grunt and growl amorously. A real Australian nighttime experience most of us in the city never get to hear. Keep warm in winter with beanie and jacket. Even in summer, you'll need long sleeves at night.
Melbourne's level of entertainment on any one night is amazing from theatre, cabaret, jazz, comedy, folk music, poetry, circus, night clubs and much more. You will never have a boring night in Melbourne. In the smaller towns you will also find lots of local pubs with live bands..For Backpackers : Every Tuesday night is backpackers' night at the Hard Rock Cafe. There are cheap drinks 7.30pm-11.30pm and a live band from 8pm - Bourke Street, Melbourne. Big Wednesday at Frostbites - to Chapel Street for half price pizza and $2 pots.Crown Casino: Melbourne has a fairly new casino and entertainment complex which has been suggested as being Australia's answer to Las Vegas. For the main areas of the casino, dress is neat casual. In the Oak room gentlemen are required to wear a tailored jacket and tie, (no denim) and smart attire is required for ladies.
Victorian Arts Centre is made up of a complex of buildings on the south bank of the Yarra. Three theatres below ground, the State Theatre, home to the Australian Ballet, the Playhouse and a studio space plus the Concert Hall is part of a centre that also houses the Performing Arts Museum. You can take a tour of the complex which is really quite fascinating. You will have a greater appreciation of the colours and artwork also by having it all explained to you. I have great memories of shows and concerts that I attended there.The spire can be seen for miles around Melbourne especially at night when it is lit up and it is a well known landmark. At night, birds flock together and fly round and round the spire (at least I think they are birds).
