Tongue Point, Wilson's Prom by windsorgirl I don't think many overseas tourists are aware of "The Prom", as Victorians call it. This park encompasses the southernmost point of the Australian mainland. It has 130 kms of coastline and many hiking trails that will take from a few hours to a few days. You will pass through forests and fern gullies en route to spectacular coastal views. There is also a sandy beach and camping facilties. It is located 170kms southeast of Melbourne via the South Gippsland Highway. Leave a Comment

Peterborough Park by dlandt If you stop in Peterborough, at the end of the main street there is a park, from which you can see some good views and read a placard about the shipwrecks in the area. This one isn't in the tour books either, but I recommend it for those with a little interest in history. I was particularly amused by the story of a fabulous and new ship which went aground in perfect weather because the captain couldn't leave the company of an 18 year old woman. Leave a Comment

Scenic Lookout by dlandt Just taking the random lookouts can be a rewarding experience. There are no tourists, no buses, no crowds. Sometimes these are well marked, sometimes not. Sometimes they are turnouts on the road, sometimes a side road you need to follow for several kilometers. They are worth the trouble, make no mistake. Leave a Comment

Sunbury's Churches by ATXtraveler If you are headed out to the Wine Country northwest of Melbourne, then the first town you are going to run into is Sunbury. It is in Hume City Council, with plenty of history. This is where "The Ashes", which apparently is a prestigious cricket trophy got its inception. The most endearing part of this city however is the little courtyard of churches in the middle of "downtown". A small park separates three churches, and makes for a nice stroll down this little piece of Australia past. Leave a Comment

The Crags by dlandt Located a few kilometers west of Port Fairy, not in the guidebooks, not on the maps. Follow the signs 3km off the Princes Hwy. The view here was our first glimpse of what lay ahead on the Great Ocean Rd., and, in my opinion, was the most stunning. Although there are only two parking spots and no guard rails or paved walks, this was one of my favorite sights. The solitude makes for an even better experience. See my Travelogue for more pictures. Falls by dlandt We followed another tiny sign and took a walk through the forest to see these falls. Along the way we saw a koala up in the tree. Pics of the koala are in the travelogue, but as you can see, the falls themselves provided a viusual treat as well. Lookign at this, try and smell the sweet smell of mist-wettened forest. Mt Buffalo.. from the web... by Sweetberry1 Another very popular Ski Resort is Mt. Buffalo. Proclaimed a National Park back in 1898, Mt Buffalo is one of Australia's oldest and most beautiful National Parks. In the late 1800's visitors would travel on horseback up to the plateau. Today, the drive onto the plateau takes just over 30 minutes from the picturesque valley townships of Porepunkah and Bright. The awesome beauty of the park has changed very little over the years and your first visit to the amazing Mt Buffalo Gorge is sure to take your breath away. Situated just 100 metres from the beautiful gardens of the historic Mt Buffalo Chalet, you can often look out over a sea of clouds across to Mt Bogong and Mt Kosciusko in the distance. You'll soon understand why we're affectionately known as "Your Island in the Sky". (From the web.) Mt. Hotham. (pic. from the web) by Sweetberry1 European involvement at Mount Hotham commenced with the movement of stock between Gippsland and NE Victoria which followed settlement near Omeo by McKillop, McFarlane, Livingstone and others in 1835. Stockmen from Cobungra station moved cattle to the Ovens & Kiewa valleys over the top of Hotham. Grazing interest was followed by mining when gold was discovered in almost all the river valleys surrounding Hotham. It was soon after that the intrinsic beauty of the area brought interest in recreational use of the area. Leave a Comment Phone: FREE: 1800 657 547Other Contact: Tel: 03 5759 3522

Mt.Buller... by Sweetberry1 Mt Buller Resort is 250km north east of Melbourne. ( aprox. 3 hour drive.) Rising to an altitude of 1 805 metres above sea level, Mt. Buller Resort is well known for being one of Victoria's most popular ski resorts. The longest ski trail is 2.5km with an average snow depth of 1.5m. There are 25 ski lifts, capable of moving 40,000 people every hour. And since the maximum number of people skiing is approximately 10 000 at peak periods, there are no delays in catching a ski lift. The season opens in early June, and closes in early October. There are 7000 beds available at the Resort in hotels, lodges and clubs. A further 2300 guest beds are available in nearby towns such as Mansfield, less than a 45 minute drive away. This is where we stayed at the time of our last visit, but I would have preferred to stay at the resort. Leave a Comment Phone: 03 5775 7000Other Contact: E:info@mansfield-mtbuller.com.au

Forest by Sweetberry1 Throughout winter, Mt Donna Buang offers a winter playground of snow-play and tobogganing. At a height of 1,245 metres, Mt Donna Buang often has moderate to heavy snow falls throughout the winter months and is easily accessible. The Rainforest Gallery includes a 40 metre long observation platform which takes you into the rainforest canopy (one of only three of its type in Australia). Mt Donna Buang also includes numerous memorable walks, including a 350 metre long elevated walkway taking you through the rainforest where you will see majestic 65 metre tall trees (many of which are 300-400 years old). Mt Donna Buang is a very easy and scenic 18km drive from Arrabri Lodge all times of the year. Leave a Comment
