Queen Victoria Market: Victoria's Premier Spot to Shop
  • Tip Rating:
  • This may be considered a shopper's delight....

Some people would call this a swap meet, but the Queen Victoria Market is more than that. In one stall, you may find some items directly off the boat from China, and in the very next shop you will find some great art from a local craftsman!

We have found everything from stuffed animal wallabies, to leather coats, to aboriginal art.

    Definitely go check it out!

    Melbourne Shopping
  • Tip Rating:
  • Chapel Street is located to the south of Melbourne - one of Melbourne's trendiest shopping areas. Chapel Street has an abundance of fine cafes and restaurants.

Bridge Road in Richmond . A seventh heaven for factory shops for popular and designer clothes, bedding goods, shoes galore and of course great cafes?.great value.

Brunswick Street in Brunswick , A bit Bohemian, alternative and different shopping, great cafes (likened to Greenwich Village NY)

Ackland Street in St Kilda is retro and different shopping. There are fabulous continental cake shops to die for. Great cafes.

Melbourne Central is a Modern Shopping Complex featuring Daimaru, a Japanese department store. The Complex also has the world's biggest glass gone built over the top of an old shot tower which is also a feature. And in the Area where the cone is located is a large clock that opens up and plays music on the hour.
Located on the Corner of Swanston walk and Latrobe Streets.

Highpoint has been extended and some say that its now too big, but what shopping centre can ever be too big.
    120-200 Rosamond Rd, Maribyrnong.

Chadstone Shopping Centre is the place to head for designer labels, homeware, department stores or the movies. The centre prides itself on being 'The Fashion Capital'. You need a mall guide so as not to get lost.
    1341 Dandenong Rd, Chadstone.

    Queen Victoria Market
  • Tip Rating:
  • Queen Victoria Market (Vic Markets) is a great outdoor (but partially covered) market. During the week mainly fresh produce is sold but on the weekends the goods extend to clothing, leather, souvenir goods amongst other things, all at very good prices. You can also buy fresh flowers and indoor plants, fashion jewellery, compact disks, handicrafts, authentic Australian artefacts. There are also small shops inside as well. Don't forget to try the donuts. Sundays are really busy days.

  • Address: Elizabeth Street. City
  • Directions: Catch any tram heading north along Elizabeth or William Streets from the city centre. Parking can be a bit of a pain especially Sundays.

    Shopping Tours
  • Tip Rating:
  • There are companies in Melbourne which run shopping tours. They will take you sightseeing and exploring Melbourne's 8 - 10 great factories and warehouses to pick up some good bargains.

A stop for lunch is usually included in the price. Tours run every day except Sundays and Public Holidays usually.

    Various: Shopping in Mt Buller
You don't go to Mt Buller to shop, that's for sure!

There is a supermarket in the village square, where you can buy essentials at hyper-inflated prices. If you have room in your suitcase, bring items with you rather than planning to buy them here - the range is not good, and did I mention expensive?

There are various "mt buller sports" franchises around the village selling ski wear, and various other small souveneirs, but nothing too inspiring. Our best souveneir was the "Jerome the Gnome" purchased for $20 from the Mercure Grand Chalet.

For a unique present, check out Jerome the Gnome from the Mercure Grand Chalet.
    $20.
