Blue Duck: Lunching by the beach

The Blue Duck is under new management. It has been refurbished and has a slightly different menu- it offers Chilli mussel specials on Tuesday night which no doubt we will sample in the near future.

We went there on a beautiful "summer like day" for lunch. The lunch special that seemed good value was the tomato and asparagus soup with garlic bread (for $11)Eventually we settled for a seafood tasting plate for two for $28. We ordered a serve of garlic bread as well which turned out to be fortuitous as we would have starved if we hadn't. The tasting plate looked very nice- natural oysters, squid, smoked salmon on a bed of goats cheese and prawns in an asparagus sauce. Nice to look at, tasted good too but just not enough!!

To finish the meal we had a sticky date and fig pudding with rum raisin icecream and a sticky caramel sauce. Rich, gooey and very, very nice at $12.50.

The red wine list is a bit limited- big glasses though. We settled on a Cape Howe Cabernet Merlot which was just OK.

The best feature of this restaurant is the location. (see photo)It is right on the beach and on the day we were there it was very pleasant. For my money though it is still on the pricey side.

Favorite Dish: The sticky date and fig pudding.

Tropicana: Casual dining opposite Cott beach

Tropicanas is a casual place to go if you feel like a light lunch without too much fuss and when it isn't going to cost you too much. Not fancy but OK. The cakes counter however, is pretty speccy especially the lemon meringue pie!

Beaches Cafe: Casual outside dining

3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Beaches is a super casual cafe/outdoor restaurant. It is very popular with locals particularly with the early morning swimming, cycling and walking brigade who finish off their daily exercise with a coffee or light breakfast here. Because it has plastic tables and chairs set up outside on the lawn area people who walk their dogs along the beach also favour this cafe.

C Blue is connected to the OBH so it has a fairly regular and loyal crowd. It is fitted out with lots of metallic and long water features in the middle of the restaurant. The food offered is a mixture of cuisines and the atmosphere is casual and informal.

We have been here for lunch and dinner and entertained overseas visitors at this restaurant.

For what it is it is good value especially if you can get a window seat overlooking the ocean.

Suggest that you reserve a table beforehand if dining on the weekend.

Favorite Dish: The tapas plate as a light luch is good.

Sounds like an odd choice but the lamb chops on sweet potato excellent.

Indiana Tea House: High price on the beach

Ok- have to make a confession here. I've put this in because the place is sort of a landmark in Cottesloe.

I suspect that many people go to this place for a cup of coffee just because its there!

We had a meal here a long time ago and vowed we would never again-bit unfair I know but it was just so "damn" expensive.

It did not seem to be when we ordered our meals but when they arrived it soon became so. Example...I ordered a sizzling Chinese beef for $18. You would expect it would be served with some vegetables or a small serving of even rice and a "sprinkling of salad" wouldn't you? No- it was just slices of beef..nothing else! I then had to order some rice and greens. Total cost over $40.00 for one simple meal without drinks. That's why we go elsewhere if we want a meal!!

This is the place I go to have a quick cup of coffee and a rasberry and white chocolate muffin. They are to die for!!

The restaurant/cafe is right on the beach and has a regular crowd in the morning - "the blue rinse set"!!

Daisies

Daisies is more a cafe or a place that you might stop to get a muffin, homemade chicken Thai Pattie or a ready made meal such as Lasagne.
They have a special deal of coffee and a muffin.

It is a place many people stop at on the way to or from the beach. Parking is provided on the median strip.

The shop also sells a number of deli goods, milk and flowers.

Favorite Dish: Muffins - the best I have tasted are the raspberry and white chocolate although the blueberry are also good.

Vans: An excellent breakfast

Vans in the afternoon

Cottesloe has a number of restaurants that seem to specialise in serving great breakfasts. Vans has been voted by a leading culinary group as serving the best breakfast.

They also serve a very nice lunch. We have been there several times- being health conscious we like the Vietnamese spring rolls.
