    Sculpture by the Sea

The Sculptures by the Sea exhibition has now been held for the last 3 years from March 3rd to the 18th and is set to be a regular fixture on the Cottesloe calendar. It has been especially popular this year with thousands of people visiting the beach hoping to glimpse for free (catalogue $7) some of the wonderful sculptures. The concept is originally from Bondi Beach.

I have included a sample of some of the more "popular" sculptures. See travelogue as well

Update: there is now a virtual tour you can take of the various sculptures

South Cottesloe is the place to see Kiteboarding in action. Walk/drive/bike down when the sea breeze is in usually late afternoon.

If you are feeling daring you might even want to do lessons.

    North Cott beach in September

North Cottesloe Beach is the beach that Cottesloe people like! I say this in a biased way- it is a small beach that is protected by a reef on both sides which means that it is perfect for body surfing in the morning. SeeNorth Cottesloe beach layout

Like Cottesloe Beach there is a regular group of people who run and/or swim early in the morning at this beach.

Note: the best time to swim at this beach is before the sea breeze which usually means before noon.

Men showering after a swim in September

Cottesloe Beach is a very popular beach during summer and its surrounding pubs and clubs on Sunday nights "The Sunday Sesh". This is because Cottesloe Beach is so accessible by train and bus.

The best time to go swimming in Western Australia is not in the middle of the day but before the sea breeze which means generally in the morning. There are a number of sites that provide information in relation to beach conditions at Cottesloe.

Take the family for a picnic to Cottesloe Beach

    Cottesloe Beach

Cottesloe Beach is popular with families and teenagers. The reason why families like Cottesloe is that there are large expanses of green grass. There are also a small number of tables so that if you want to picnic you do not have to sit in the sand but can relax under the shady pine trees which surround Cottesloe Beach. The beach itself is quite shallow for 20-30 metres from the shore and it is patrolled by the Cottesloe Life Surfing Club during the summer months.

Be warned though when the temperature goes above 25 degrees and it is a weekend these prime spots are taken up very quickly in the morning!

    Snorkel at Vera View

by albaaust Updated Sep 27, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Vera View

Vera View Beach is a very popular snorkelling site. The ecosystem extends intermittently approximately 4.5km along the coast, and approximately 1.5km off-shore from Cottesloe. The reef is composed of limestone pinnacles, elevated limestone platforms and watereroded outcrops, with patches of seagrass, kelp beds and sponge gardens. A vast range of aquatic life, including fish, shellfish, crustaceans, weedy seadragons and the rare leafy seadragon, lives in the reef. The reef has become a Fish Habitat Protection Area and the local community assist in its promotion, protection and management.
