Read all about the claim to fame of this huge big salt lake in my travelogue here.
Dumbleyung Lake is also popular with bird watching enthusiasts as it is an oasis for all sorts of bird life.... that is when not completely dry in the summer months.
If travelling from Perth to Albany, Dumbleyung should be on your itinery. We enjoyed our visit and I am sure you will too.
The building says there is a Veteran Car Club of Australia here in Dumbleyung, but I couldn’t find anything on the web.
The salt water lake covers an area of 5200 hectares although a lot of the time its bone dry but back in 1964 after a heavy rain, the lake was full and became noticed by the world when Donald Campbell broke the world’s water speed record when he travelled at 276.3 mph in his boat called the ‘Bluebird’.
Dumbleyung is found on the Wagin – Dumbleyung Road, around 36kms from Wagin and 44 kms from Katanning.
