Kangaroo at the side of the road.

Scooters for hire in the town centre. Great for getting about the town and even down into the Cape Park if you don't mind a long trip.

Don't forget your sunblock, and watch out for kangaroos on the road, especially if driving at dawn and dusk.

It's compulsory to wear a motor-cycle helmet in Australia

There's little public transport

There's hardly any public transport in Exmouth, so you will need to have a vehicle if you want to go out of the town.

These campervans will provide you with accomodation as well, I saw a lot of them around while I was there. They are old vans that have been painted in wild designs each with it's own theme.
They are well kitted out with a kitchen including a fridge and a comfy bed. They are old , but 24 hour roadside assistance is provided and another will be brought to you if it cannot be repaired quickly.

Self Drive from Airport.

Driving:

Its approx 1.5hrs from Exmouth Airport, make sure you buy some water before leaving the airport, as there are no shops or service stations in between. It’s the outback, so be prepared and have necessary items at all times.

There is limited mobile coverage on this route but once you reach Coral Bay mobiles operate.

Driving from Perth takes approx 11hours on sealed roads.

Buses to and around Exmouth
Purpleshade profile photo

3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Purpleshade 116 reviews

There are many charter buses from Perth to Exmouth with an accomodation package.

If you want to arrange your own accomodation and only need transport there, Greyhound buses run from Perth to Exeter and on to Broome, stoppping at most towns along the way(there aren't many!!).

If you're staying in Exmouth and want to go down to Coral Bay and other places on the way, there's a tourist bus that does the trip daily.

There's a mini-bus available to and from the airport which will drop you off at your accomadation

Ningaloo Reef Retreat Bus Service

Sandy Bay - a possible stop off on the bus

If you're planning to visit Exmouth but don't have transportation, its worth noting that getting around can be a real problem but overcoming the challenges is, for some, part of the holiday itself.

Exmouth itself doesn't have a public bus service but the ecotourist resort, Ningaloo Reef Retreat has a bus service out to the retreat which services various beaches in the Cape Range National Park and return tickets can be bought to use this bus service. Stops in Exmouth include the shopping centre and Tourist Information building, as well as many of the tourist resorts and caravan parks.

The Ningaloo Reef Bus departs Exmouth at 08:30am, 7 days a week April to September and from October to March on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Its worth stopping by the Tourist Information so that they can put a call into the resort to check the bus is definitely running and to alert them to the fact that you will want picking up.
