And after all that eating and drinking, work the kilos off by going on a bushwalk.....
Or as we usually do....build up a thirst by going on a bushwalk first :o)
There is a big bushwalk right around the lake or you do the same as us.....just go for a little one and along the way take a detour to walk along the lak front. As you can see here, the scenery is just as nice a checking out all the native wildlife :o)
Another great thing to do is bring a picnic and while the kids are playing in the playground you can have a nice leasurely picnic lunch and a couple of glasses of wine :o)
Joondalup Shopping Centre has a great food area where you can buy take away food to bring with you or you can head to Woolworths and buy some fresh buns, ham and take away salads.
If it is a lovely day why not stay and have a BBQ. The BBQ's are free and all you need to bring is some meat, bread rolls, disposble plates, drink, tongs, oil, tomato sauce and a newspaper to clean the BBQ.
You can get all this from IGA or Woolworths in Joondalup Shopping Centre. Oh and Woolworths has a grog shop if you want to bring some beers with you :o)
When you arrive you will be amazed at the amount of bird life, from pretty Roselas to flocks screaching cockies.
Take some time to sit on the seats provided and watch the birds :o) Do what I did and try to capture a video of the flocks of screaching cockies. Sadly I was not successful this time with my new video camera....maybe next time :o)
Joondalup Lake is teeming with wildlife. The best thing to do is to walk straight down the stairs and head to the lake and onto the jetty. The views are just gorgeous and a photographers dream! :o)
If you have done all the touristy things in Perth and want to experience an enjoyable day by public transport out to the suburbs and mix with the locals plus enjoy a bit of natural Australian wildlife, then I would recommend a day at Joondalup.
Joondalup is located north of Perth and easy to get to via public transport. Just purchase a day pass and catch the train north from number 1 platform Perth to Clarkson and get off at Joondalup.
Joondalup lake is quite easy to get to. When you arrive at Joondalup train station, hang a left and walk straight through the shopping centre and out - not far. You will see the cinemas straight ahead and the popular Sovereign Arms pub on your right. Go right past the pub and up the stairs. You will see Hogs Breath restaruant to your left. Turn right and head up the road to the intersection, crossing over to the left hand side along the way.
You are now facing the Grand Boulevard Tavern. Cross the intersection and past the tavern and keep walking. Just keep walking for 5 minutes and you will come to Joondalup Lake.
This is what you will see when you arrive.
What's a family outing without a playground?
Joondalup has a huge playground that has everything for your fun loving kids.
It is also very clean and safe.
