Come fly with me...
  • Tip Rating:
  • See some of Kalbarri's spectacular gorges around the National Park and inaccessible terrain from the air with the locally owned and operated Kalbarri Air Charter.

The flight we took went out across to Kalbarri National Park and over the spectacular gorges of the Murchison River.

Then it flies over Murchison House Station, over Kalbarri town and finally the flight goes speeding over the ocean past the rugged coastal cliffs.

Duration is 45min and the plane holds 5 people.

Adult Price $90.00 Child Price $55.00

  • Tip Rating:
  • It is at 'The Loop' that visitors can inspect 'Nature's Window' - a large hole in the Tumblagooda sandstone walls (they were formed about 400-500 million years ago) far above the Murchison River. To visit 'Nature's Window' visitors should not take the turn marked 'Lookout 2' - although that is well worth visiting - but continue heading west until reaching a large car park. 'Nature's Window' itself is about 600 metres along the ridge. Located on the edge of the ridge it affords superb views of the entire loop. It is quite safe - if you are careful

    Visit the local museum
  • Tip Rating:
  • On Grey Street, in the centre of Kalbarri, you'll find an unusual museum, filled with lots of different things. You enter the museum through a shop where you go down the stairs. These stairs lead to a replica underground mine full of interesting facts on the mining business.

The rest of the museum consists of a huge collection of dolls from all over the world, reptiles, toys, articles on the shipwreck history of the coast around Kalbarri and numerous other things.

The museum is really something different and definitely worth a visit. Entrance fee was only AU$2.

    Murchison gorge
  • Tip Rating:
  • Murchison gorge, 35ks from Kalbarri, 26 of which are gravel road through part of the 183,000 ha of national park, but are accessible by car or cycle, is The Loop, Nature's Window and Z-bend which are well worth the effort of going. Real outback feeling as you walk through the bush and come to the edge of the cliff and see the river wind its way through the valley below.

    Natures Window and The Loop
About 30km from kalbarri township, you pay a small fee to enter the national park and drive 20 odd km to reach the two accessable gorges, The Loop and the Z bend. Natures window is quite impressive, there is a 1km walk there and back. The Window itself is a rock that has been eroded to look like a window, through which you can see a pretty picture of the river. The Loop is a walk track that follows a loop of the river, approximately 4 hours long, however if you have come to the national park for the day you may not have time to complete it.

    Island Rock
At one time Island Rock was part of the shoreline but with the constant thrashing of the ocean, it stands isolated from the main cliffs.

    Whale Watching
During winter and spring you may be lucky to see migrations of humpback whales. There are tours available which will take you out closer or you can go to places like Red Bluff or Eagle gorge to get the best chance of a sighting.

    Grandstand Rock Gorge
Grandstand Rock Gorge is at the same vantage point as Shell House Gorge. Over time the soft limestone rock face has taken a battering from the ocean and caused the formations that you see today.

    Murchison Gorge Z-bend
High above the Murchison river there are fantastic views and photographic opportunities. If you are a hiker or keen walker there are 1 day to 4- 5-day excursions through the gorge.
