If driving to Kununurra fron the Northern Territory keep in mind they have very strict quarantine regulations. On the border is a checking station where they search you for fruit and vegetables. It's prohibited to take these into Western Australia. There are some exceptions with vegetables but not many and there are conditions. They will allow you to eat as much as you can but the rest is confiscated. So don't buy up big in Katherine. Kununurra has a good supermarket and you can get most of what you need there and not loose anything on the border.
Crocs are frequently sighted in the Kimberly area and this includes Kununurra so becareful when visting places like Lake Argyle and Mirima National Park as they are there so read the signs and stay clear of areas where they`ve been sighted.
If out boating or canoeing remember that not only is the sun very intense because of the proximity to the equator and constant clear skies, but you also have the reflection off the water. This means you have virtually double of what is a very high rate of insolation.
Be sure to have proper clothing cover, hat, sunglasses and a good sunscreen.
