    VAT 107 built its reputation on a great mix of sophisticated food made with the freshest and best of local ingredients and a smart but relaxed atmosphere. Locals and visitors alike come here looking for some of the most innovative food in town. Needless to say, the excellent wine list features the best of the local vintages.

    The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner - and accommodation is available .
    Dinner bookings are essential.

    I have to say, things are not quite what they once were. When I first wrote this tip I included "served with professional style and good humour". Unfortunately, both were sadly missing on my last two visits. I'm not sure when I'll be giving them a third chance ... there'll need to be something irresistible on the menu - or MrL in whiting wihdrawal.

    The menu changes very frequently to take advantage of whatever is freshest and at its best seasonally. Recently I had a delicious "Plat Blanc" - a tasting plate that included a little bowl of white bean and artichoke soup that was just perfect, a perfectly poached free range egg served on fresh asparagus and white polenta and a tiny twice-baked mushroom souffle.
    Mr L never fails to order the whiting when it's on the menu -and is never disappointed.

    Many of Margaret River's vineyards have very good restaurants. Whilst few are open in the evenings, lunch at a vineyard is definitely part of the local culture.
    With a big balcony and wide windows looking over the vineyard, the warm red glow of local jarrah timbers and a menu featuring wonderful local produce, Vasse Felix's restaurant is one of my favourites, summer or winter. The menu is always interesting and suited to the season.
    Bookings are advisable in the summer- particularly at weekends. Winter is always quieter but it wouldn't hurt to book at the weekend, just to be sure.

    Nothing beats a big bowl of yummy home-made soup and some fresh-baked bread on a winter's day to warm the tum and the heart. If you still need a little more, the desserts are always delish. And a good glass of red (their Malbec is excellent) finishes things off very nicely.

    Everyone who comes to Margaret River eats at the Spaghetti Bowl at some time. Some of us have been doing it for years. Big log fires and a warm and comfortable atmosphere make it just the place to head for on a cold wintry evening and the outdoor terrace is just as inviting on balmy summer nights.
    Whatever the weather, the generous serves of well-cooked pasta and house specialities will keep you well satified and, of course, there is a n extensive wine list featuring many of the local wines.

    There's always something on the pasta menu to appeal, and the local venison is very good, however it is prepared.

    Established in 1999 by Jenny Spencer and Gary Cream, Vat 107 is unique in that is unites a little of the city to the country.

    Oozing with VAT 107 style, you'll discover the polished floorboards and marble bars combines both city chic with clean and simple detail.

    Chef Dany Angove has been with the Vat 107 since its conception. He has an extensive and intelligent knowledge of local produce using local and fresh seasonal produce from around the south-west region.

    The menu changes with food trends however you are likely to find you can order popluar dishes like Dany's authentic seafood laksa, Szechuan duck and Cloverdene lamb.

    The very popular restaurant at Cape Lavender has won numerous awards over the past few years, including 'Best Tourist Restaurant', 'Best Freestanding Cafe - Country Licenced', 'Best Licenced Casual Dining - Country', as well as the 2004 Sunday Times Award for 'Excellence in Informal Dining'.

    The crowd on the weekend was certainly testament to these achievements. Their menu is a delicate blend of light temptations to refined contentment. You should sample their freshly made lavender scones with fresh jam and double whipped cream.

    GoodFellas is an Italian restaurant on the busy Bussell Hwy right in the middle of Margaret River township. They have been open since 1997. The name came from the hit movie 'GoodFellas' involving the mafia during the 50's, 60's and 70's, with all their traditions including food. The restaurant offers a wide range of woodfired pizza's as well as a full a la carte menu. They also cater for kids with their own menu's. GoodFellas are fully licensed and have a good range of local wines but allow BYO as well.

    Open : 6.00pm - late (summer) and 5.30pm - 9.00 (winter). During peak periods and long weekends they open for lunch from midday - 2.30pm and are also open Christmas Day.

    Cafe Forte has been judged in the top 5 restaurants in WA for 1999 and 2001 Gold Plate awards. The serve a huge range of locally grown produce. During winter you can enjoy a fire or in summer dine outside. There is a childrens menu also. They can cater for intimate dinners or larger groups with their Yellow Room and Terrace or the Green Room.

    They are open 7 days a week for dinner from 6.00pm.

    Last time we were in Margaret River, hubby and I went to the Spaghetti Bowl for dinner. The bowls were large and the food was delicious. I definately recommend this restaurant!!

    This place looked nice from the outside with lovely outside eating area and nice umbrella sails. The price looked right too. But the food wasn't so good. We preferred Chooks up the road or the pies at Brumbys Bakery.

    Wild Thyme caters well to both Margaret River's smart-set foodies and the whole food brigade with its mix of healthy eats and sophisticated flavours. Organic, vegatarian and gluten free are all features of the menu here, both to eat-in and take away but it's all served up with lots of panache and some neat and thoughtful touches - picnic rug hire to go with your basket of gourmet goodies is a good example.

    Everything is both locally sourced wherever possible and freshly prepared and cooked on the premises.

    Open from 7.30-3.30 weekdays, 8 -3.30 Saturdays and (during school holidays only) Sundays

    Excellent coffee, fresh juices and yummy paninis stuffed with fresh salads, roasted vegetables, tasty cheeses and the like hit the spot perfectly for lunch and no trip to Margaret River id complete without one indulgent breakfast of Wild Thyme's blueberry pancakes - absolutely delicious!
