The ambience is typical pub style. The service is good and the staff are friendly and helpful. This was our luch stop on our Big Day Out wine tour.Open daily from 10am-6pm. I tried the sticky pork ribs and teamed it with the tasting selection from the Cheeky Monkey Brewery. A great combination and a 'just right' serving size.

Settlers Tavern has a pretty full entertainment schedule. Most of the stuff is typical pub rock/garage music, but they have the occasional electronic and other generes as well. Check the website for details of what's on when. Casual. The locals dub this place "the flea pit", because it's where the ferals like to hang out. (for the non-australians,...

This some of the most exquisite woodcraft I have ever seen. The designer uses the local timbers - Karri, Marri, Jarrah and Sheoak to create the most amazing art - both useful and decorative. His bowls are fantastic - but well above my price range for this trip. If you are interested in a unique timber bowl or showpiece this is the place. There are...

Margaret River Warnings and Dangers

  • Winding Roads

Please be careful when driving in the South West of Western Australia. There are many long, winding roads, with other dangers such as kangaroos and sun shining through the trees. Remember, you won't get there any faster by speeding, you just may not get there at all. Relax and enjoy the ride.

  • Driving at Dust & Kangaroos

"Kangaroos are native to Australia and are found in large numbers throughout Western Australia. They are a constant risk along any rural road, including the major highways and main roads, because they are attracted to the road where puddles of water form after rains. Kangaroos can grow up to 90 kilograms and if you collide with one, especially at...

  • Cape Naturaliste

Cape Naturaliste can only be visited with a guided tour. Not only the lighthouse but also the cape itself, unlike Cape Leeuwin where you can walk the grounds on your own. Since the next tour was already sold out they wanted to make us wait for two hours. We said, no thanks, and left. So I have not seen anything of the cape and all I have is a photo...

  • The Berry Farm, long drive and came away...

To tell the truth I was disappointed in The Berry Farm. Its a 15 kilometre drive from Margaret River and we saw none of the fresh berries that give the business its name. Although the products for taste and purchase at the cellar door were of a very high quality, they were also very expensive. Their range of pickles, chutneys and jams and the 3...

  • Local produce is not a scarcity

A lot of the local farm produce - jams and so on, are also available in the local supermarket and in Perth, and are usually cheaper at those outlets. However, the variety may not be the same. So by all means buy some while you're there, but there's no need to go overboard. Just check the prices, if you think it's overpriced, it probably is.
