I am not much for mainstream nightlife. but you can always tempt me for a walk on the beach, especially when the sunsets are as spectaculare as this one, my kind of nightlife and if someone brings the beer, thats the maximum then

The Denver City Hotel in Coolgardie is a typical Aussie outback pub. They serve Swan lager, that great Western Australian beer.

It's also a motel, so you can stay the night there, if you have one too many.

Dress code? You must be joking, mate!

The old hotel has been around since 1897 when Perth was booming from the discovery of gold. Many of Perth’s hotels or pubs were built during this time to provide accommodation for the large number of immigrants and workers from Victoria. In 1989 the hotel had a 1.5 million facelift and has been classified by the National Trust.

The Brass Monkey has several bars - The Grapeskin Wine Bar / Cellar which has an award winning wine list and a walk-in cellar which stocks over 500 local and international wines and Cigars. There is also the Balcony Bar Cafe Lounge upstairs which has casual modern dining and offers cocktails and Western Australian wines and of course has great views of the skyline. The Tap Room provides live local and international sporting events with a 6ft x 4ft screen and 90 inch plasma screen. The function room of the Brass Monkey is The Glasshouse and is located above the Courtyard and surrounded by glass walls. The laugh Resort Comedy Club is featured here every Wednesday night. There is also an instrumental trio which plays on Friday nights, and a cover band plays on Thursday and Saturday. There's no cover charge.

The Claremont Hotel was formerly known as the Continental and the Redrock Hotel and is popular on with students and after work crowds on Thursday and Friday nights. There are upper balconies with tables where you can sit or also down on the street level. Inside is a long island bar, pool tables and dance floors. On the weekends the music is loud. Very popular place both in the evenings an for lunch. There are also private rooms.

  • Great club for dancing the night away; it doesn’t close until 6. Good music by Australian standards and good atmosphere. The interior is a inspired by Asian design and there are comfortable sofa’s for hanging around.

The best place to go at night is Northbridge, a suburb of Perth.
Heavy Italian influence in this suburb makes for great restaurants and clubs. Hey, I thought I was in Jersey . . .yo! Also, home to the Brass Monkey and it's heavenly Brass Monkey Stout.

Dressy in clubs but casual places abound too, like the Monkey.

  • For some life music go to the Prince of Whales. It’s not a very good venue but some of the better bands come play there.
