Cold Southern wind

The Australian climate is strange. It can be very hot but at night it cools down considerably. I only packed summer stuff when I went first and I ended up wearing the long warm scarf I brought from winter cold Europe. So take a nice warm sweater with you.

What they say is very true! The sun is very harsh down under. So make sure you have your shoulders covered, a spf 20 or even 30 in your bag and a big sunhat! Well not a very big sunhat…just be careful.

Even in Summer, it can get cold in the desert at night, pack a light sweater or jacket and ensure that you have sturdy hiking shoes. Pack light, You can purchase just about anything, just about anywhere. Pack a travel first aid kit! I always travel with my Minolta SLR camera with 2 lenses (1x 35/80 and 1x 75/300 zoom), a two times converter, a polariser for both lenses, a spare battery and 10 spare rolls of 400 asa film with 1 loaded in the camera. Always ensure that you have plenty of drinking water and food, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, a flashlight and a box of matches incase you get lost!

I thought I got stuck with a crap job when assigned to pack and unpack the truck, but it got me out of kitchen duty, freeing me up to drink more beer before dinner with my co-packer, Gary.
