    Visit Rottnest Island

    Winter on Rottnest Island

Favorite thing: Visit Rottnest Island... you can get around on bikes or walk... there are no cars just people powered vehicles. Crystal blue ocean surrounds this small island.

Scuba diving, surfing, snokeling and sailing are some of the things you can find yourself getting the urge to try at this magical little place.

Great resturants and accommodation are ready to serve you if you can't leave the unique wildlife and island lifestyle that insists on you relaxing leaving your worldly cares behind on the mainland.

Follow this link for a great site to find out more about Rottnest Island only 20 minutes by Island Supercat from the Fremantle Habour near Perth Western Australia.

Fondest memory: Watching the sunset over the ocean from the white sandy beaches and secluded bays at Rottnest Island. Little Parokeet Bay is my favourite.

There's nothing like sharing good times with friends in an environment like this.

    A Settlement Built By Convicts

by keeweechic Written Aug 3, 2004 10971 reviews

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Perth was actually founded as a settlement in 1829 but its growth was slow. In 1850 convicts were brought in to increase the labour shortage in the area which followed in many of the wonderful old buildings in Perth being built by convict labour. Perth was always behind the eastern cities of Australia until the discovery of gold in the 1890’s. This not only increased the population but also a building boom – some of which has since disappeared with the growth and modernisation of the city.

One of my Favourite Places - Fremantle

by keeweechic Updated Jul 26, 2004 10971 reviews

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: One of my favourite places in Perth was Fremantle (Freo) which has an interesting history dating back to the mid-nineteenth century. It is not just Perth's port, it is also a very thriving tourist area. Wander down Cappuccino strip, full of cafes and restaurants. Sample some of the best coffee. Sit outside on the pavement under large market umbrellas and watch the rest of the world go by. Visit Fremantle markets and loose yourself for a couple of hours shopping and being entertained by buskers.

    Fremantle

    by Wang_hong Written Feb 25, 2003 34 reviews

Favorite thing: Fremantle is Western Australia's chief prot and is situated at the mouth of Swan River just 19 kilometres from Perth. Fremantle was founded in 1829 by Captain Charles Howe Fremantle.

Today, much of the colonial architecture remains which makes Fremantle a beautiful and historic city.

Fondest memory: That day was really cold after raining:(

    Freemantle Prison

Favorite thing: The Freemantle Prison is definitely worth a visit. They offer fascinating tours; the guides are good story tellers. This gaol was convict built in the 1850's and was a working prison for nearly 140 years, closing in 1991. The history is rich and some of the cells are covered with prisoner artwork, so there is something for everyone!

Favorite thing: Check out Fremantle. That is where the Swan River meets the Indian Ocean and where the Americas Cup was defended. I highly recommend the marina and the excellent restaurants and pubs around the marina. Fremantle has a sense of small town about it, but with all the amenities that a city would have as it is virtually part of Perth.
Get there by following Stirling Hwy (north shore) or Canning Hwy (south shore)
