this was my favorite pub in perth - awesome place to hang out with uni friends. good live music (if u like rock). there's a local band there that plays various rock tunes from u2 and coldplay to rhcp and counting crows. and during breaks there'd be a DJ that spins rnb + dance tunes.
on friday this pub gets really packed, so be early to avoid the long queue.
Dress Code: casual! wear anything really
Universal bar has excellent bands and live performing singers. I went on a Thursday and there was this singer who sings almost like Barry White. No cover charges. Crowds are mainly the yuppies and 30s-50s. Can get very crowded on Saturday nights. The bar does serve simple nice meals too. Kitchen closes before 9pm.
Varga Lounge - The Home of R & B with 3 bars including private bar & lounges. Start your weekend movin to smooth & sexy tunes with DJ Nik Alexander, DJ Slick and MCBsyde. Saturdays are all about sophisticated surroundings, pumping sound, no attitude and most of all da funk with DJ Birdie.
The Lounge opened in the year 2000 and the best Varga nights are Friday and Saturday.
The Varga lounge is open Friday 5.30pm-late and Saturday 6pm-late and there is no cover charge, so its free to get in!
If R & B, Hip Hop, old school & new funk, Soul, Reggae, 2 - Step and Smooth Hip Hop is your thang... then the Varga Lounge can deliver!
Dress Code: Dress Standard: Well dressed ... you can never 'over dress'
This place has a typical American Atmosphere to it with it's neon lights and focus on sport and quality live entertainment.

Dress Code: Casual
For Wednesday's nights, a popular place to be. So after receiving a stamp on your wrist, go inside and head to the counter not to claim your mail, but some delicious beverages instead. Let's begin spinning around and have a Big Wednesday night.
I noticed that the bouncers were very efficient with bad boys, so keep cool otherwise you will be packed as an express parcel ;-) Staff was prompt and friendly as in every Port Office... and no queue to do at the counter.
Don't know if it is still the case as I was there in 2002, so keep me inform if any Post Office change occurs...
Metro Superclub comes alive on Saturday nights! Door entrance is $10 after 11 on Friday and $15 after 11pm on Saturdays. For fans of R&B music lovers, you will get to hear the lastest hits with 3 bars, doubled storeys plus a huge dance floor. There is "LIVE" performing dancers with Dj doing the spinning in the background. During winter, there is a cloaksroom service with $2 for each coat charged. Doors open at 9pm and till late. So partay on!

CHURCH nightclub is not your holy place that you think it might be. At night, the place comes alive with trance , bass and drum music. Mainly Asian hangouts on friday and saturdays. Entrance is $5 on fri after 11 and $10 after 11 on Sat. Depends on the 'season', sometimes it can be so packed down to a few people in the club.
Bring an ID for identification (v. important note for tourists)
Dress Code: NO trainers, sneakers, sleeveless for guys and minimal wear for ladies are always welcome.
The down side is , the cloaksroom closed at 3am while the club opens till late. duh*
Very popular club among the Australians. I realise most crowds here are into these sort of music. I would say more for the younger crowds and most of them would get 'high' and drunk. Entrance fees apply on Fri after 11pm and Sat nights.
Bring an ID coz the bouncers do SUX at times at tourists.
Dress Code: Funky, hip hop dressing but no sneakers, or shorts, sleeveless for men.
There are loads of great night spot to visit, its a bit like most places in the world, you have to ask people which place is in for your age group or younger.
People all go to a club for about a year, then all move to another, so you need to keep your eyes open for a queue.
Dress Code: Pretty strict really for the clubs, but get out of town and you can pretty much wear what you want. But then, I would rather be where everyone has made an effort.
I love to see women well dressed, and not in a pair of flip-flops (thongs) Aussies call those rubber open toed sandals THONGS, I would like to see you try to put a pair of those between your cheeks.
The Shed in my opinion is Perth's Number 1 nightclub.
Located in Aberdeen Street, Northbridge, The Shed is predominently an outdoors venue but has the best sound system & visual equipment.
It's a great place to meet people and always has a good line up of the best local bands & DJ's.

The old hotel has been around since 1897 when Perth was booming from the discovery of gold. Many of Perth’s hotels or pubs were built during this time to provide accommodation for the large number of immigrants and workers from Victoria. In 1989 the hotel had a 1.5 million facelift and has been classified by the National Trust.
The Brass Monkey has several bars - The Grapeskin Wine Bar / Cellar which has an award winning wine list and a walk-in cellar which stocks over 500 local and international wines and Cigars. There is also the Balcony Bar Cafe Lounge upstairs which has casual modern dining and offers cocktails and Western Australian wines and of course has great views of the skyline. The Tap Room provides live local and international sporting events with a 6ft x 4ft screen and 90 inch plasma screen. The function room of the Brass Monkey is The Glasshouse and is located above the Courtyard and surrounded by glass walls. The laugh Resort Comedy Club is featured here every Wednesday night. There is also an instrumental trio which plays on Friday nights, and a cover band plays on Thursday and Saturday. There's no cover charge.
One of the few good food places opened till late!
Big serving of food, my recommendation is a moon burger. Drinks of all kinds including cocktails and a classic cherry coke!
On Monday and Tuesday they have a $9 pasta special.
No bookings needed however it is always busy.
Dress Code: Whatever you want!
I visited this bar twice, and really enjoyed myself both times. The first visit was on a Saturday night, the place was packed and there was a really good atmosphere. I was surprised that inspite of the number of people there, you didn't have to wait too long at the bar or for the bathrooms. There was an excellent band playing, which was really cool, cos there was no cover charge to get in.
The second visit was a wednesday evening, where they had a meal deal kind of thing. So you pay $5, get a delicious BBQ meal and a stamp to give you discounted drinks for the rest of the evening! It was a real bargain! Again, there was a great atmosphere and good music.
Dress Code: No dress code, flip flops are ok.
