Driving down the ''South West'', Perth
Albany is located about 5 hours south of Perth but you don't want to be driving straight down to Albany. Take your time and head east into the country and down, coming back up the coastline.
I have added an itinerary here on vt that will take you through some amazing countryside and along beautiful scenic untouched beaches. Some of the things you will discover are as follows -
A huge rock to rival Uluru, a tiny little Bank in the outback, a wave rock, a pink lake, salt lakes, a dog cemetery, dog in the ute, unusual tin can creations by the farmers, magpies on poles, a funny nudist sign in the middle of nowhere, stunning beaches, glorious wildflowers, braving strong southern wind at natural arch, stunning beaches around Albany, seeing where the Indian Ocean meets to Great Southern Ocean at the Lighthouse in Augusta, puffing along on an old tram at Pemberton, walking amongst the tree tops on the tree top walk, enjoying foodie heaven in Pemberton, the fabulous Margaret River surf, wineries and caves.
Hire a car and spend 7 to 9 days in an adventure you won't forget. Head off in Wildflower season, September/October and you will experience some amazing sights.
Follow along with me in the itinerary below.
The scenery on the South west coast is really worth seeing. This photo was taken on one of the stop offs on a one-day coach trip.
Yeah, it rocks in WA. Fantastic part of the country.
The photo is of the Elephant Rocks, quite near Denmark if I remember well.
The further South you drive, the more moderate the climate becomes. From the warmer climate you find around Perth, it gets milder quickly enough down to the Southwest point.
Barely one hour from the coast and you are already in the bush. Not too much further and you are in the desert.
