If you are looking for the finest wine in Margaret River, then look for Voyager Estate which s located in the premium wine producing region of Margaret River

Our oldest vines date back to 1978, just over 10 years after vines were first planted in the area. When current owner, Michael Wright, took over the property in 1991, he set out to expand it and develop a visitor destination that would be a showcase for the region.
Also prepare to drive your car there, and they have free wine tasting, I enjoy it very much

    Quay West - Bunker

by Openseas Updated Dec 13, 2007 832 reviews

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If looking for a couple days getaway from Perth then head down to Margaret River. Its approx 2-3hrs drive south of Perth.

This resort is nestled by the gorgeous waters of Bunker Bay. To be fair to this review, I did not stay here, but spend the day at the resort. I am adding this review as additional information for other travellers whom are considering staying here.

The resort has a stunning swimming pool with exquisite oceanic views. The accommodation consists of tasteful eco friendly bungalows scattered through the gardens. Some are perched overlooking a man made lagoon, some have ocean views and others are simply hidden amongst the bushes.

The restaurant looked impressive, contemporary and stylish and the lobby equally fresh with a wonderful modern ambience. The resort is a short drive from Dunsborough close to Cape Naturaliste within the Leeuwin National Park. There is little around except the resort, so if looking for different alternatives for dining then one would have to drive into Dunsborough.

This region is superb for snorkelling and diving where there is a diversity of marine life around the reefs. Eagle Bay and Meelup are particularly beautiful safe swimming beaches. For bushwalkers there are some fantastic tracks, the most popular being the Cape to Cape track between Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin in the National Park.

Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, which is approx five minutes drive from the resort, offers daily tours. If travelling down to Margaret River and the vineyards, I would opt to stay in Yallingup at the historic icon, Seashells Caves Hotel or the Yallingup caravan Park overlooking the ocean in one of their sea view cabins.

If I decided to re do this route, I would drive from Perth to Bunker Bay and stay one or two nights. Then head to Yallingup and stay at Caves Hotel or at Canal Rocks Apartments overlooking gorgeous Smith’s Beach. I would use these two places as my base for exploring the caves, vineyards, beaches, and the National Parks.

    Margaret River

Margaret River is a fantastic destination! It is 4 hours south of Perth and there are so many things to do down in that area that I would suggest you stay at the very least 2 nights. Yes, people do day trips, but you would be spending a lot of the day on the bus.
Anyway, Margaret River is famous for it's wines and surf. Surfing competitions are held all the time in Margaret River. It also has some lovely caves to explore and there's other stuff to do in and around the area. I love Margaret River and I'm sure you will too!!

The best time to go is during late spring and autumn. Spring is the time where u can visit wineries and sample australia's best wines and cheese. In summer and autumn, u can surf and enjoy the cool sea breeze. Chocolates are all year round affairs, best during Easter and Christmas. Access to the website to get your way to and around margret rivers.
A must-go is Margret River Chocolate Factory and Limestone Caves(Buy the 3 Caves pass to save)

    The resort

Normally, I don't recommend luxury hotel / resort in this site. But I really enjoy the stay in this 5 star hotel - Quay West Resort Bunker Bay. The Quay West Resort Bunker Bay is a pristine paradise in the Margaret River Wine Region. The resort is absolute beachfront to the waters of Bunker Bay

The resort has luxuriously appointed villa style resort apartments with either garden, lake or oceans views. All guestrooms and suites are spacious. You can walk to the white sands and blue waters of Bunker.

Expect to pay AU$300-400 per night for a whole family. You need to drive to this resort. Remember to bring your own food to cook, the modern kitchen is fully equip for family dinner

    The Margaret River wine region
Almost three hours South of Perth on the coast, you will find a wine road that is worth exploring. I found some Shiraz and Merlot of great quality, some of the best Pinot Noir I tasted yet.
$$$ prices for a equal quality though could be twice or even three times the price you might find in California and even France.

Taken in winter and it is still beautiful.

Is absolutely beautiful, it is a newly developed area which is more accessible then a few years back. Surfers are attracted to this area. The coastline and surroundings are virtually untouched.
