    Wave Rock -Hyden

This is an amazing site!! Strange rock formation hey!! It's even better walking underneath it and looking up. You'll find it right in the scrub in the middle of nowhere just west of Margaret River. You can do a day trip there and it's definately well worth it!!

Wave Rock is located at Hyden which is in between Perth and Esperance so if you are doing the bottom half on Australia then my suggestion is to go south via Margaret River and Albany, cut across the bottom to Esperance and then up through Lake King past Hyden & Wave Rock back to Perth. Quite an adventure....and well worth doing :o)

I was here 2013 with other vt members on a 5 day tag-along trip and was very excited to actually see Wave Rock,it is a fantastic formation and the colours are striking.
I also walked the loop that takes you around to Hippos Yawn and back via the bush track to the car park.
The day I was there it had been raining so you need to be careful and where strong walking shoes.
Don't forget your camera for that top pic..look for the orchids and other wild flowers on the walk, they are simply beautiful.

Great wave formation Stay on the track Hippos Yawn Pretty wildflowers along the track The track is slippery when its been raining.

Wave Rock is located to the north of Hyden which is about 350KMs away from Perth.

Wave Rock doesn't sleep! so you can go see it at Midnight!! And the fees charged is just a parking ticket! There's also accodomation available at the Wave Rock Country or the township of Hyden.

Go to Hyden (320 kilometres from Perth) and see the wave rock.
The Wave Rock is 15 by 110 metres and has vertical bands of colour. These colours are formed by washing chemicals down its face. In the area there are several other rock formations such as the Hippo's yawn, The Falls, and the Breakers and these are all without walking distance of the wave rock - go and see them it is worthwhile!

5 kilometres east of the small town of Hyden in Western Australia’s wheat belt is the Wave Rock. This has to be the state’s strangest rock formation. The large granite wave has been created by chemical erosion over thousands of years, and a reaction with rainwater has caused the red and grey stripes on the rock. Nearby there are other rock formations such as the Hippo’s yawn, the breakers and the Facing Wave Rock. While about 20 kilometres northeast of the town of Hyden is Mulka’s Cave and here there are several Aboriginal rock paintings to be seen.
There is a visitor’s centre in Hyden (08) 9880 5182 which is open daily.
