This is a large square (also known as the city’s town square) which has Myer department store and the General Post Office. The tourist bureau is right next to the Post Office so a good idea to go there first and get whatever information you need. They also provide a booking service for major events, accommodation and other tours. Leave a Comment Address: Murray St Mall and Wellington Street

Perth’s General Post Office sits in Forrest Place and was built between 1914 and 1923. When it was built, it was the tallest building in Perth and probably one of the most grandest with the Donnybrook freestone and Mahogany creek granite. Also inside there is a lot of local Jarrah used. Obviously one of the busiest centres in the city area. Aside from all the postal facilities and gifts you can also receive mail care of General Delivery (which is known as Poste Restante in Australia) at the Post Office. The service is free and mail is held for one month. Open : Mon - Fri 8am - 5.30pm, Sat 9am - 12.30pm, Sun noon - 4pm. Leave a Comment Address: Forrest Place, City

This wonderfully huge Gothic Cathedral is located in Victoria Square – originally known as Church Hill . Construction began in 1863 and was completed in 1865 by Benedictine Monks who were more skilled than the convict labour. The monks resided in Subiaco and walked the six miles to the site every day to help with the building of the Cathedral. The land where the cathedral sits was originally meant for the Church of England. Leave a Comment Address: 41 Victoria Square,

Another of the historical buildings on Victoria Square. This is the Convent of Mercy, started by the sisters who arrived ready to open a school in 1846. The first school became the first secondary school for girls in Australia and is the present site of Mercedes College where the original convent, our Mother House (Victoria Square), stands today. The sisters also founded the first welfare home for Aborigine girls in Perth. Leave a Comment Address: Victoria Square

First plans for this building began in 1855. The labour came from the brothers in Subiaco and later from New Norcia. The first part of the building was finished in 1860. The building was used for the Archbishops offices and temporary residential accommodation for church purposes on the 1st story floors. In 1986, the Pope was housed in the palace during his visit to Perth but today the Archbishop does not live in the building. Leave a Comment Address: 41 Victoria Square, Perth
